Doesn't every town have a rock and roll summer camp now? Is this new or different? and it's probably a DPP in some regards.

Do they feature spin out art? Hide yr coke stash in a calico-cat doorstop?

Portland's is the rnrscfg, as it were.

And just what the hell is a DPP?

Kick-ass.

The "Rockin' Out" download reminded me of the last scene from School of Rock when Mike White is trying to teach the seven-year-olds how to play a C-chord, which is great in it's own way. Also, did anyone notice that half of the bands at the Brooklyn camp had better names than most successful bands out there today? The Pink Slips? The Shout-Outs? Hellish Relish?

Also, I have to wonder if any of the girls are playing these.

Well, rock IS for kids.

First time I saw those daisy guitars down at (motherfucking) Apple Music Row, I decided that a couple thousand dollars and a few months of spare time would be justification to start a four-guitar blues band. Just rocking the fuck out to overblown Blues Revue stuff on adorable little girlie guitars.

I wish I were much younger and had the chance to go to one of these. Makes me want to have a daughter just so I could send her.

Okay... I hate to do this, because it makes me sound really bitter, but when that thing first started (in Portland) I REALLY wanted to do it... I was the right age, I had musical chops and the desire to rawk, and I even had the money to go. Except that I was (and am) a boy. And there's nothing like that for boys who want to rock in a structured setting, or at least nothing I found... Go female rock empowerment, I guess. I have a band now, though, so I'm happy. No lasting bitterness. Until I saw this post.

OverlappingElvis: there's nothing like that for boys

There's this, but afaik that's about it.

There's one of these (for girls) in Murfreesboro, TN, where there's also Middle Tennessee State University, one of very few universities with a recording music industry major. I went to their concert last year and some of the bands really were better than bands than played in local clubs. Not that that's a very high bar.

Gawd, it's like the special olympics, only the kids don't have explanitory intellectual challenges.

WTF, WTF. Squirrel expressed my thoughts and feelings perfectly.

Maybe I'm reading this completely wrong. It just seemed like an attempt to diss both Special Olympics and the rock camp concept by ham-handedly conflating them. If you mean simply that they're similar in that they're both positive environments that encourage people, cool, but that's sure as hell not how it reads.

Maybe you could elaborate so that I know what the hell you're getting at.
