Never seen Elliot Erwitt's photo (#35) in this sequence. Damn fine photo. Is that Condy and W in the background? And Rumsfeld in the foreground, leaping: "Don't look there! Look here!" It's, like, a fabulous Champs de Mars musical.

Good stuff. I'll add this little archive of TdF stories from Owen Mulholland.

Nice shots. And wouldn't the correct French pluralization be "Tours de Frances"? :0) Vendredi heureux!

squirrel: no, since there's only one France being toured. Just like the english plural... Tour of France->Tours of France :)

pretty pictures, but annoying that they don't have the date or more specific locations... would have historically contextualized things tremendously.

Excellent - thanks OmieWise! (The whole InMotion site is worth exploring ...)

True, no dates. But it's fun to guess what approximate year the pic was taken by looking at the pic's contrast and other qualites that date it.

I'm not sure I'm sold on this slide-show format that Magnum is experimenting with. Have they lost confidence in the concept of the still photograph, or have they lost confidence in our ability to maintain attention for more than 3 seconds? Depressing thought, that.

I'd like to see Magnum stand confidently behind the still image. The voice aspect is nice. I'd like to hear, say, Paul Fusco, talk about one particular image, which remains on the screen for a minute or more as he explores the picture and its content/context in depth.

True, I was constantly pressing the pause button.

the cartier-bresson (#32) photo is marvelous. exhaustion, glory, sex, determination.

that was beautiful, thank you.

Yes, this is beautiful. The narrator, Joergen Leth, is also the director of one of the best cycling films of all time: A Sunday in Hell, about the 1976 Paris-Roubaix.
