Fred wheezy the cat: hater of both crime and dog breath.

Good kitty. Hope he gets plenty of tuna, salmon, and other treats in Kitty Heaven.

Moral of the story; don't let your cat wander freely on a busy NYC street if you don't want him to die young.

Did you actually read the story?
Ms. Moran and her husband opened the back door to carry their 14- and 16-year-old dogs downstairs. The cats chased one another outside...
I worry about this every time I open the door, even though our cats have so far shown no inclination to try to escape. Are you the kind of person who reacts to one of those stories about a kid drowning in a wading pool while the parents had their back turned for a minute by tut-tutting sanctimoniously about parental negligence? It's impossible to watch every child and pet in your care every second of every day; death is a lot faster on the draw than we are. I hope nothing like this ever happens to you, and if it does, I hope you don't have to deal with smug reactions like that.

In his time, he etched a parable of the city streets that hate you so blithely and without knowing, that hate us all. He was born to these streets, and what drew him back none could say.
ohferfucksake. It's a pet obit, not a Mickey Spillane novel.

As do I. And I have a former stray in the gaggle that defiantly looks interested in getting outside ("Be patient," I keep telling him, "One day I'll be able to afford a house with a backyard...")

There was no way to keep my cat inside. He just Got Out, so I let him roam. He rarley left the block.
Sadly, the block included the alley, though which some people liked to roar at 30+ mph.
He was run over in that alley last Friday morning. I miss him and wish he hadn't loved being out so much, but I don't regret letting him out.

Uh, why the fuck do we care about this cat in particular? Is it just that he didn't die before when he was sick? How the hell is he an "undercover cat"? Were his owners douchebag marketers? What's the deal here?

And don't ever regret it. I let my cats out and they love it. Keeping them in would make myself feel a little better and them a lot worse. Quality of life is just as important as quantity. It's like Ivan Drago said "If he dies, he dies."

blasdelf : "How the hell is he an 'undercover cat'?"
According to the article, he was used in some sort of sting operation on bad vets, or something. I dunno. The name Fred the Undercover Cat does nothing for me.
Seems to me that the money spent saving this cat's life from imminent death could probably have been spent on more important things.... *goes back to playing DS Lite*

What's up with all the fucking links on the front page? Oh and "the green"? Huh? I don't get it, are people supposed to ask questions? Shit, do I fucking need this backquote key on my keyboard, like, ever? And so what, like some dude spread his anus out, wtf.
