Calling it quits. Just two weeks after posting his first video (viewed over 1.7 million times since), Peter, the surprise star of YouTube, has posted his "Reluctant Farewell". [previously]
Hmm, the lonelygirl fakery bit is more interesting then the peter thing, which I always found boring (hardly "what we all thought the internet would be" as one FPP suggested). Anyone want to summarize his rational, I'm to lazy to watch a five minute vid.
As far as lonelygirl, well, Why does it have to be viral marketing related, rather then just the creation of some bored highschoolers.

I've befriended several older gentlemen in my life, most of whom were alone in the world, having lost family and friends along the way, and found themselves in their twilight years having having nothing but the 30-something stranger from the flat upstairs as company.
As well as hearing some great stories, plenty of terrible non-pc jokes, and some questionable views on the day's events, I hope I've given them some at least basic human contact which they were otherwise, often tragically, lacking. It's not entirely altruistic - in my naturally pessimistic way, I often wonder if I'll be a lonely old man one day, with no-one to entertain with my tedious stories of how I survived World Wars 3-17.
Suffice to say, if this turns out to be an advert for Tango, I'll be annoyed.

LonelyGirl15 is as real as Liz Vicious (NSFW). This "Peter" I have my doubts about.

In summary: You're all god damn pussies.

Basically he's old and doesn't have the energy to respond to the thousands of people emailing him, sending him videos, and impersonating him.
But he's just taking a break, which as SeizeTheDay so tactfully suggested, makes this unworthy of another FPP so soon after the original.

Response 1) Damn she's hot. Response 2) Is that makeup or Photoshop? Response 3) God people's faces deteriorate from 'youthyness' quickly. Response 4) Drink.

quitting your blog is just one of the many ways to get people you dont know to tell you that they love you.
sign as desperation. if you wanna quit just quit. no need to announce anything.
tina fey was on snl for 9 years and didnt say goodbye. these youtubers could learn a little from her.

Could someone let me in on that LonelyGirl15 character? The Wikipedia is a mess of edits, and contains no information. Doing google searches merely brought up a slew of blogs speculating on whether she was for real or not, but no info on who exactly she is or what she does.
Can someone give me a one-paragraph summary of this LonelyGirl thing? =)

Earlier today, I needed to place "Dios Callouts" On Notice--they've become incredibly tiresome. To make room, I decided that YouTube would be the first to bear the unendurable shame of becoming Dead To Me.
I'm glad to see that I made the right decision.

Sure. Pretty girl makes videos about nonsense. People watch because people will always watch pretty girls. Ugly girls and guys make videos, but no one watches.

One notable aspect of the LonelyGirl15 situation is the Aleister Crowley connection. YouTubers have noticed a picture of the famous occultist in her room (never mentioned or explained by her). This is offered as evidence that it's all Blair Witch style viral movie marketing.
