I’ve probably got around 30,000 of them filed away now…

During his downtime on early worldwide tours with DEVO, Mark Mothersbaugh began illustrating on postcards to send to his friends, which he still creates, and has been creating every day for over 30 years. It's an obsessive habit/hobby which still yields anywhere from one to a couple dozen new postcard-sized images per day.

I had the chance to see some of these prints at Osheaga and although I admit to being nonplussed by some of the pieces I must say that the sheer volume and number of gems made for an impressive exhibit.

I really, really like this stuff. So far this is my big fave. But I think I'm gonna have to go through and look at Every. Single. One. of these. Thanks for a great post.

[furtive, you might want to change your first two tags to 'MarkMothersbaugh', without a space. Otherwise, they show up as separate tags.]

Oh, and thanks for the post. Mothersbaugh's collages have been some of my fave art for a while now; they can seem tossed-off but there's almost always more going on in them than you first think. Great stuff.

If you like such mail art you might like the Electronic Museum of Mail Art and the work of the Crackerjack Kid.

Excellent post. Thanks. I love this kind of thing - I still look at 300 Love Letters a fair bit, and then there's Indexed, which is pretty cool as well, as is the well-known PostSecret site.

Cooool. And -- He's got 30,000 of these? I want one!! He's gotta have just one out of 30,000 for me. How to make friends with obsessive artist, hmmmm .... (goes off to ponder, also to look at new links provided by the commenters)

Funny this post should hit on the same day I was cleaning out some ancient VHS tapes and ran across my copies of "The Men Who Make the Music" and "We're All Devo".
