My half-assed researched guess is somewhere between $750-1000.

In the Matchstick Marvels' FAQ it says the smallest bulk order is $500. Another matchstick modeler claims to buy in bulks of 250,000 sticks. A craft kit of 2000 matchsticks runs between $7-10, so it makes enough sense that the $500 bulk purchase would be about 250k sticks.

That's simply insane. (Also, The Dinner Game.)

Two hundredths of a cent for a useless matchstick? What a racket! I bet this entire hobby market is astroturfed by the manufacturers.

Seriously though, that's a lot of work. I'm surprised they don't ever airbrush these models, the natural wood appearance really isn't all that striking and I'd imagine it would provide some interesting opportunities for contrast as you looked closer and realized how many individual components were involved. I see some that have a lighter appearance, but that could be a different species of wood or a bleached run of material, can't tell at this resolution.

I built this over two weeks this summer(in my parent's basement, no less! I didn't have the space). If my normal-ish life spiralled completely out of control, I think I'd wind up with these matchstick guys, and maybe happier.
