Damnit, I'm stuck at the key generator. I'll have to come back later.

I'm stuck at the key generator and the wall safe.

"If I turn off the lights will something appear on the wall?"

Um, nope.
posted by papercake at 11:29 AM on September 15, 2006

Uh, yeah.

Stupid game! Where's the fourth key thing?!?
posted by Alvy Ampersand at 11:30 AM on September 15, 2006

Alvy, did you explore all of the second floor?
posted by Faint of Butt at 11:31 AM on September 15, 2006

The game was reviewed in April on Jay Is Games, you should find sufficient spoilers there. I remember at least one variant being posted there, with a different car and slightly different puzzles, but I don't have the link handy right now.

Screw the game, I won a new laptop, and an epileptic fit!

How is TeeShot not the password.
posted by Espy Gillespie at 11:37 AM on September 15, 2006

Yeah, I can't get that either, Espy.

How do you use the objects that you pick up?
posted by dr_dank at 11:45 AM on September 15, 2006

i've done EVERYTHING, i've opened every key and lock, and used every item, EXCEPT the yellow key and the magazine! what do i do with them!?

WTF. The password ISNT TeeShot, then what the heck is it?

Spoilers ahoy!

That was a fun quickie. I've been playing The Longest Journey the past few days so my adventure game puzzle skills are primed at the moment.

Hint: When you enter passwords online, how do they show up? Now look at the magazine again.
posted by linux at 11:55 AM on September 15, 2006

Yes. Beating that game is a dream come true.
posted by Espy Gillespie at 11:58 AM on September 15, 2006

Ahhh, thanks linux (what a helpful OS!). I realize now that verbosity isn't always best!

And with that I got out of the garage!

The sequel is here.

Drove away Happy. Much fun, but not as hard as Mystery of Time and Space. Now THAT one was a whole afternoon wasted.

I'm stuck on that too, Loopy. Any hints?

WTF? TeeShot? teeshot? TEESHOT? TShot?

Grumble.

Now Linux's comment makes sense after about the 50th try.

That was fun, thanks! The ashtray thing was a PITA for me though...

Dr_Dank -- check LoopyG's response to Linux's hint.

I think they changed the text on the website you're supposed to go to.
posted by parmanparman at 1:06 PM on September 15, 2006

No, it has your answer - see linux's comment above
posted by caddis at 1:09 PM on September 15, 2006

I thought the ashtray thing was a pain too. I'm stealing a car from some guy. Why the hell am I taking the care not to spill ashes on the floor?!

because you are stealing it from your father?

This is the first game like this I've ever finished without cheating.
posted by fungible at 1:26 PM on September 15, 2006

That made me panic a bit too much.

Anybody playing the Sequel that ND¢ linked to?
posted by dr_dank at 1:45 PM on September 15, 2006

I played it. What do you need to know? Oh, and these guys played it too. Contains helpful hints that got me through.
posted by ND¢ at 1:49 PM on September 15, 2006

The clue to the safe combination was very clever. Now I'm working on the toolbox combo.
posted by dr_dank at 2:00 PM on September 15, 2006

I'm playing the sequel, and I think it's impossible to complete with Linux's Flash Player 7.
posted by zsazsa at 2:06 PM on September 15, 2006

I'm stumped on that damn password for the safe...
posted by BobFrapples at 2:11 PM on September 15, 2006

The safe password nearly caused me to launch my desktop off this third floor window. But I did, eventually. Think simple.
posted by vaportrail at 2:40 PM on September 15, 2006

Bob what's another way to refer to a stolen car?
posted by cell divide at 2:45 PM on September 15, 2006

Damn that password.
Frapples - the magazine explicitly avoids giving you the password. What does the magazine not give you?
posted by NinjaTadpole at 2:48 PM on September 15, 2006

That was pretty easy... I wish it was longer!
posted by fusinski at 2:52 PM on September 15, 2006

Finished it. Worth it if only for the stodgy inspirational blurb at the end. That really brought a smile to my face. Thanks, caddis!
posted by brundlefly at 3:03 PM on September 15, 2006

posted by quin at 4:14 PM on September 15, 2006

That password thing is totally stupid! If they had limited the number of characters to 3 I probably would have figured it out without the hint..
posted by Chuckles at 4:18 PM on September 15, 2006

i'm stuck on the sequel - can't figure out what the floor symbols are supposed to mean. i assume it's got to do with the wall safe combo though.
posted by sergeant sandwich at 5:24 PM on September 15, 2006

Beep beep, yeah.

Order on all this seems to be important. I couldn't get the flashlight to work at first, despite repeated tries.

"because you are stealing it from your father?"

Huh. I'll be damned. I read the story far enough to read that he designed and sold it, but not that he got it back. Still, you're STEALING A CAR. Is dad going to save some of his anger for "And another thing, who taught you to empty ashtrays onto the floor? I HAVE NO SON."
posted by graventy at 7:27 PM on September 15, 2006

what? you never stole the family car? not even for a short drive?

Getting the safe open -- I didn't realize I would have to take the thing apart like that. Using the hidden piece instead of the obvious one. Once I did, though, I got a nice warm feeling.
posted by dhartung at 8:45 PM on September 15, 2006

That was an enjoyable little challenge. Thank you (even if the interface for using items on each other is a little frustrating at times, which is what caused me to waste a lot of time on the ashtray thing).
posted by wanderingmind at 9:49 PM on September 15, 2006

That was fun. Like fungible, the first time I've finished one of those without cheating. It was all worth it for the ending.
