This Must Be Designed By Idiots

This Must Be Designed By Idiots is an online art exhibit of three Amsterdam-based mixed media artists, where one of the media is taxidermy, and the other is some disturbing combination of fashion design, jewelry, glassblowing & handicrafts. The end result is compellingly creepy, and my personal favorite is this piece, a mouse permanently at rest inside the glass belly of a glass cat.
Whoah! Some of that is fantastic. I'm loving it.

Some of them are rally nice, but some are horrific. The Mouse in the cat is certainly interesting, kind of nature.

Your favourite piece is said to have been "destroyed by the artist". I'm wondering if it was some moral dilemma about using a fur robe.
"Ophelia", the lion, is beautiful, but terribly sad.

By "this", do you mean the crazy-ass website design? I try to click one of the images, and they all jump out of my way to put the one I'm hovering over in the center of the page. Fun!

Artists destroy their stuff all the time. (Sometimes for no other reason than lack of storage space, which I find rather distressing.)

Very interesting pieces!
The interface is so bad I'm thinking it's deliberate. A sliding thumbnail toolbar that dodges your mouse? Pop-ups that take over the whole window, but for some reason only show a slightly larger thumbnail?

Argh. Site navigation through the front door doesn't seem to work at all with Opera 9. It can display and browse the actual exhibit images fine, though.
How could the intro page possibly be cool enough to justify locking some users out of the exhibit?

It's been a long time since a piece of artwork forced me to have such an immediate & visceral reaction. Not quite revulsion; more of a morbid, disturbing, yet curious fascination with the thought process that ended at that piece of work.
Now that's art. Nice post, jonson.
