I love it. Many years ago I bought a science fiction novel about the Sex Pistols, written I think by Michael Moorcock, printed in a newspaper format. I don't remember much except that Lemmy was an important character. I bought my first Motorhead record the next week.

Tenpole Tudor was in it too--what the hell was that novel?

It was "Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle" - the "novelisation" of the movie. Probably the strangest Jerry Cornelius, and that's really saying something.

As for Lemmy, I think that when asteroid X is dicovered to be on a collision course with the Earth it should be named after him. It would only be fitting.

(that should be "... the strangest Jerry Cornelius novel" of course)

What about the slime mold beetles in the genus Agathidium: A. bushi, A. cheneyi, and A. rumsfeldi?

Never heard of this book. I'd really like to read it though.

I just spent an entire cigarette break trying to think of something snarky that combined Lemme, Motorhead and polychaete annelid worms. I got nothing. It's just a cool when science has a sense of humor.

Maybe it would be funnier if the worms were mooches. Because I hear that's how Lemme got his name: 'Lemme a fiver, eh?'

That's awesome! By the way, what's the plotline of Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle?

Holy hell MonkeySaltedNuts, I thought that was a joke till I read your link. Does this mean we can now say things like "Bah, Bush is giving slime mold beetles a bad name?"

Fucking A. I've been waiting for a good excuse to post this for a while. Motorhead, in 1984, on The Young Ones, doing Ace of Spades:

This is Rock and Roll. [youtube]

Great clip. I've often wondered why Lemmy rigged his mic above his head. It looks kind of uncomfortable.

But I just realized, it's because he's not singing to us. He's singing to God. And he's telling him to fuck off.

Wasn't it Motorhead that did the music for the film "Eat the Rich?"

I wouldn't be surprised if those rich bastards gave a poor working stiff worms...

#quin: Does this mean we can now say things like "Bah, Bush is giving slime mold beetles a bad name?"

I thought it was a real insult to name slime mold beetles after US administration figures, but Bush seems impervious - he phoned them up and thanked them

I knew it from The Young Ones, like BeerFilter said.

Me too, first exposure to Motorhead. Sent me on a strange, strange path.

lazaruslong: "Who here only knows the song Ace of Spades because of Guitar Hero?"

Actually, that's one of the few songs in GH that I knew before playing it... come to think of it, it's the only Motorhead song I know, though.

Entomolgist who named beetle after bush thinkis it's a compliment:

""We admire these leaders as fellow citizens who have the courage of their convictions and are willing to do the very difficult and unpopular work of living up to principles of freedom and democracy rather than accepting the expedient or popular," says Wheeler, who named the beetles and wrote the recently published monograph describing the new slime-mold beetle species while a professor at Cornell."

I reckon they're giving slime mold beetles a bad name.

Biologists have great senses of humor. For example, a strain of fruit fly that's really sensitive to alcohol is called...."cheapdate."
