Youtube video of Philly cops vandalizing Philly cop car. Can you say 'disciplinary action?'

I dont get it.
What's the big deal? Seems like some fun between coworkers.

At first I thought they were shrink-wrapping the car, which I could see being a big deal if it prevented the officer from getting into his vehicle and responding to an emergency.

Then I realized it was just toilet paper and shaving cream (I watched the video before I came into the thread and saw the title).

The only really wrong thing I can see, is that it provides a bad image about the effectiveness of the police to anyone who walked past that vandalized cop car.

The cops were probably just having a laugh. When I read the FPP I figured I was in for them smashing the windows and slashing the tires. But this? This is 4th grader stuff. If anything, I'd bust them for being so unimaginatively juvenile.

This would pass as a minor prank in my office. I'm not seeing anything worth any discliplinary action at all.

Eh, I've done worse.

From fixedgear's link: "Police department chief inspector Wiliam Colarulo calls the behavior "inappropriate" but not mean-spirited. There's no word on any disciplinary action against the officers."

When I read "vandalizing" I was expecting some smashed windows and burnination. You know, so that they could blame some "gang" looking kids and kill them and stuff, but like justified or something.

Seriously, or not, they were probably just breaking in a noob or two. All good fun and good for morale.

Good to see our men and women in blue hard at work while Rome burns. I'm brimming over with pride.

"Can you say 'disciplinary action?'"

No, but I can say "Film student getting her 15 minutes of fame for a YouTube video." And that's about it.

Remember, when you get that badge, you check your humanity at the door. No more breaks, no more off-topic discussion. I hear in Cleveland they're actually starting a program where they cut cops eyelids off to reduce the amount of time wasted by blinking.

You know, even though American police officers are dangerous to the society they are supposed to protect, everyone in any occupation needs some harmless fun.

I applaud the officers in this video for bringing a sense of humour back into policing. If only they acted this way with the public at large sometimes.

Seriously! I mean the driver of the vehicle himself wasted even more time than the seven minutes seen in the video getting food. Food!

A vehicle is stolen every 22 seconds. Coincidentally, the average length of taking a piss is 22 seconds. Every time a cop takes a piss, he's saying "Go ahead, steal that car, I don't mind".

Bugbread, you apparently live in Japan, where violent crime is a rarity, while here in Philadelphia, people get shot every day, ho-hum. Your snark might otherwise be insightful and informed. Thanks.

I lived in Houston for 14 years, and a somewhat shitty area of LA (Eagle Rock) for 4 years. I'm not unfamiliar with the concept of people getting shot. My snark is informed (unless Philly is massively different than Houston and LA). Now, insightful or not, I dunno.

Er...wait a minute. Houston for 18 years, LA for 3. Sorry, don't know what happened to my math there.
