Good day (again), Mr. Kubrick. Internet/YouTube sensation Brian Atene (previously) finally surfaces to share his story. As an added bonus, he wants to use his newfound fame to encourage fans to donate to the Christopher Reeve Foundation. (Main link YouTube, obviously)

It's much worse to see how he actually turned out as opposed to what I had imagined.

He beats the hell out of that fake Atene that popped up first. That guy sucks.

Looks like the real thing, if you ask me. Very gracious resurfacing -- too bad Ghyslain couldn't do something similar. You wonder what he's been doing in the interim.

OH my god. His Moriarty was DELICIOUS.

I wasn't that thrilled with the original..but this tickles me in a place I didn't know I had.

I can't explain it, I can only wince and peek through my fingers at the screen...

I was only have kidding with my last comment. I'm not kidding with this one. I think Mr. Atene could make a really great voiceactor.

half kidding, that is.

That was delightful, and he's shilling for one of my favorite causes.

I was thinking the same thing. He concedes that what he's doing is over-acting, but his voices are pure saturday morning!

That guy is a really, really good egg. And geekhorde, you're right. I think he'd make a fine voice actor.

(But how do you 'win' a puppy for 50 cents? Was it a raffle? What? Explain already, Atene.)

I would instantly cast this man were I in a position to do this sort of thing.

I find him daffy and charming.

Ha! He name dropped Nyack! My mom grew up there, that pleased me wonderfully.

This is good stuff. Atene is a good egg.

This phenomenon had kind of dropped off my radar since the last post, and I didn't realize until now that the fat guy in the goattee wasn't the REAL Atene!
He seems to be making a mini-career on YouTube pretending to be though. How odd.

I'm old enough to remember the humane societies stamping out the last vestiges of county fairs giving away puppies, kittens, and so forth as pets. The very last to go was the goldfish bowl that you won by landing a ball in a bowl among a tablefull (instead of between the bowls). Invariably, the fish had a few unhappy days of life, overfed in an unoxygenated bowl.

Let me propose something: Stewart. Atene. Scene. At least it wouldn't be slumming like when Malcolm McDowell did it.

So who the heck is the fake Brian Atene?

Are there other unemployed, overweight, goateed actors waiting in the wings to stage fake comebacks on youtube?
posted by schwa at 6:02 AM on November 23, 2006 [1 favorite]

It's unfucking believable that anyone thought the fake Brian Atene was, in fact, Brian Atene.
This one is...an amazingly effective triumph over the forces of embarassment. Good for him!
That said, he is incredibly annoying.

AT LAST! My improbable boner for you has not drooped even a single millimeter since first we met, Brian, not even when that guy with the pube-covered face presented himself as your imposter. I desire more than ever to float through my computer screen and disappear into the vast spiritual channels of your bewitchingly snouty nose, and slither like a serpent's indrawn tongue between your pursed and manly lips, amen.
