Great stuff!

People have a great deal to learn, but they need something more 'in your face' than a parable.

I don't think "freedom" and "democracy" are mutually inclusive ideas. I think Americans are more interested in "freedom" (which they define as capitalism) than they are in "democracy" (which they define as letting poor/muslim/black/etc people tell them what to do solely based on their numbers). So they choose "freedom" over community.
