'Night Of The Living Dead' - watch Romero's classic, in color(colorized) and streaming high quality avi file. Not from public video sites. You will be amazed by the image quality. Not dial-up friendly.

It's definitely a self link, but Night of the Living Dead fell out of copyright.
posted by MythMaker at 2:34 PM on December 9, 2006

The movie is in the public domain now;

As for the self link, there are no ads whatsoever, and the movie is hosted on my own paid for server;

vrangel wins the Banhammer!

Because the original print lacked a copywrite notice, it's considered public domain. That's one of the reasons you see so many cheap copies available commercially. Or free. (Link goes to the correct, uncolourized version.)

vranghel, you can type, but you can't read, eh?

This is not as good as the "Men Without Hats" post.

vranghel : "As for the self link, there are no ads whatsoever, and the movie is hosted on my own paid for server;"

You will notice that the guidelines do not exempt ad-less sites. As for the server being paid-for by you, that's tautological in a self-link, isn't it?

I dont understand why all the fuss is about: I wanted to share this good movie with the community, but i did not have a place to put the web player. So i created a free infogami account to place it on.

Cool video, Vranghel. I've never seen the colorized version.

Ad-ridden or not, however, self-links are frowned upon 'round these parts.

Once it gets removed (and it will) try posting it to Projects (where it belongs)

I dont understand why all the fuss is about

That's what all the self-linkers say, right before they say "Bye bye, it's been good to know you."

This is not as good as the "Men Without Hats" post.

Heh. Sadly true!

Seems that this was a mistake. Thats what happens when you try to do something good;

Is there a way to remove the post myself?

Romero is god, but this post is doomed. Welcome to the land of arguable edge-cases, vranghel.

No, but Matt or Jess will be along shortly to nuke it.

Before this thread gets killed, what's the scoop on the colourisation?

Er, no. That's what happens when you do something incorrect. Just repost it to Projects, and it'll be fine. Appreciated, even.

cortex : "Welcome to the land of arguable edge-cases, vranghel."

In the arguable edge-cases spirit, I would say vranghel should not have his account deleted - it looks like an honest mistake.

Ok...will repost it to projects.

Sorry about breaking the rules, newnies are bound to make mistakes.

Before this thread gets killed, what's the scoop on the colourisation?

They made a black and white film into a color one. Dark magic, mirrors, blood sacrifices, the whole process is quite technical and hard to comprehend.

The film was Turnerised a number of years back.

Not to mention, double.

(You just had to mention the mirrors, Science! Way to spoil things.)

What? Self-linkers ALWAYS act like this. "What? This isn't allowed? I totally didn't know!"

vranghel should certainly be banned, and this should not be posted to projects.
posted by interrobang at 2:53 PM on December 9, 2006

I posted this over at Projects; Waiting for approval.

Eat shit, vrangel.
posted by interrobang at 2:54 PM on December 9, 2006

Wait, what? vranghel is George Romero? And you want to ban George Romero from metafilter?

No, I see that. Romero's obviously a bad judge of whether Night of the Living Dead is any good, and god knows he should stop tooting his own horn.

I'm sure that my post didnt have anything to offend you to such degree. I apologised because i made a mistake, and the post should be taken down. No need for derrogatory words, interrobang

vrangel, I have to commend you for not being a dick and for graciously apologizing.

I vote for a slap on the wrist and no ban-hammer.

Good luck with future posting!

Actually, putting your self-link down as favorite prior to being banned from MetaFilter is clearly the greatest tragedy evar...pathos.
posted by Smart Dalek at 3:08 PM on December 9, 2006

But still banworthy.
posted by Smart Dalek at 3:09 PM on December 9, 2006

thanks, snsranch. I can admit when i have made a mistake.
What i dont understand though, is how such language (see this ) is accepted
posted by vranghel at 3:11 PM on December 9, 2006

These are the pretending-to-be-interested comments of a weaselly little fuck who could not wait to self-link.

Those comments were posted last week, interrobang. Mr Romero here is clearly taking his time with the self-linking; he has the patience of a fox or a badger or some other small, crafty animal. Best not to play into his tricksy little hands, I should think.

vranghel : I gather as much Meatbomb, now;

Hate to jump in the pile on, but this is pretty explicit, no?

Note: You read the guidelines, right? Because linking to your own site or a project you worked on in this space will result in a deletion and your account will be banned. Post it to MetaFilter Projects to announce your work instead, which was designed especially for this purpose.

I love Night of the Living Dead, and this would have made a decent post, but not as a self link.

vranghel : What i dont understand though, is how such language (see this ) is accepted

We are big on swearing, not so much on breaking the one rule.

If you are allowed to stick around, I'd suggest spending some time in metatalk to see the kind of things that are and are not considered acceptable. It might help prevent this kind of thing from happening to you again.

Two people post videos within minutes of each other, both with names beginning with a seemingly misplaced letter v it can't be a coincidence! I demand burnings!
posted by public at 3:29 PM on December 9, 2006

I dont quite understand why there's such fuss about posting the movie to a website that has my nickname in it. I could have created a website that does not contain my nickname in it, and it couldn't have been called self-linking.

The bottom line is that i have wanted others to enjoy this great movie.
posted by vranghel at 3:31 PM on December 9, 2006

CaptMcalister nailled it. Using the blue as a load-balance diagnostic, under the auspices of a movie download, takes a serious amount of cheek. I doubt matt will enjoy that.
