An invaluable contribution from "blogger" and "journalist" Xeni Jardin...

There's really a pole at the South Pole?

Didn't you mean, "blogger" and "journalist" "Xeni Jardin"?

Funny pix, good link.

Sandwich Girl rules. I'd rather hang out with her than anyone else in all of Antarctica.

WTF? Am I missing something? A link to three small pics on some livejournal? Do I need to stay in more?

Not. Very, very, very not.

What a couple of miserable small-minded killjoys. Sandwich girl is the best thing to happen on the web all year.

Damn, I miss the img tag.

Look at ME! Look at ME!

I'm in a unique, remote location few have the ability to ever reach and explore, and I'M DOING SOMETHING REMARKABLY STUPID!

Oh, oh, oh...and I have blog.

Please enlighten this killjoy. Proclaiming something the best on the web this year in JANUARY is not exactly a strong argument. These three pics certainly don't beat Britney's poonanie.

Wait. I read a Hardy Boys book once where--for reasons I can't remember and were most likely so improbable I couldn't even make up a reasonable excuse--they were in Antarctica. Either Frank or Joe (who could keep them straight, really), got tossed out onto the ice in nothing but his jammies. The narrator cooly explained that said Hardy brother had mere seconds to live before he died from exposure. Seconds!

So I call bullshit, 'cause it said in the Hardy Boys you can't do this.

If you read anything about Antarctica, you learn that this is just about the only way they have to break months of monotony.

Well, that and acting like an ass on Metafilter. But we've got that covered, don't we?

Nice calves. Too bad she's facing front so I can't see if she has a big round butt too.

Muddler : "I'm in a unique, remote location few have the ability to ever reach and explore, and I'M DOING SOMETHING REMARKABLY STUPID!"

Pretty much what we all dream of, though, innit? Not this particular stupid something, but being able to go somewhere where few have tread, and doing something dumb? Playing golf on the moon, etc.

I would really feel better about the relative position of things in this universe if those pictures were upside-down, just as I always picture Antarctica in my head.

That's not the dumbest thing people do at the South Pole.

Did someone say SandwichGirl?

I'm not calling double -- I'm not. I totally [heart] SG and have never gotten over my initial crush on her.

But the question is, did she yell Superstar! afterwards?

These pictures require a Deep Forest soundtrack. Yes, I understand the irony inherent.

ok, get with the cultural chasm that has opened up between us and this sandwich girl on one hand, and 1950s Man. This is about liberation, exploration, and the triumph of girly fun over such things as frostbite, patriarchy, and the cold dead hand of research for research's sake.

She's got flags, and the actual Pole, and everything about this is perfect.
