Going nuclear: choosing Miss Atom. Ilya Platonov, who runs the website said: “There are a lot of beautiful women in the Russian nuclear sector." Glowing. Radiant. Meltdown.

Raising and lowering my control rod, I find that the expected fission reaction is failing to take place.

(Except for that banner up top. How come she's not in there? False advertising.)

I'd say comparitively, for the field, a few of them are pretty.

“There are a lot of beautiful women in the Russian nuclear sector."

And smart.

Чернакова Татьяна Анатольевна writes:

One of the main successes in the professional activity I consider the title of laureate OF THE II All-Russian competition of scientific works on the radiochemistry of young scientists and specialists, conducted by interdepartmental scientific council for radiochemistry with the presidium RAN [RUSSIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCE] and Minatome RF.

This is stupid and actually harmful.

Anyone read "Schoolgirls" by Peggy Orenstein? Great, great book about why girls score better than boys in math and science up until the 8th grade. And treating them as nothing more than attractive bodies and faces is a big part of it.

I expect better from MeFi than I do from the rest of the internet. That's why I come here.

Well, pedophilia has that going for it at least. I still don't think the ends justify the means.

Well, I scored great in math and science past the 8th grade. In fact, I'm a scientist as we speak, and I'm totally hot.

Seriously, though I should read that book, it sounds really interesting. Probably part of why I got taken more seriously in my math and science classes than my female peers is because I really didn't "dress up" in college. I dressed down. Jeans and tshirts or sweaters, instead of a lot of the other girls who got all tarted up for class. (That could also be why I didn't get as many dates..) And that's not cool (both the part about the other girls not being taken seriously and me not getting dates)
