The Gang of Chador

"I'd like to play again, but right now it is not possible. Last year there was a big bomb at a concert here in Kabul, and lots of people are still against female singers because the religous leaders condemn it. It will probably take 10 years before we will have real girl bands here in Afghanistan, says Nargiz, who now works in an international organisation in Kabul."

See, Islam values and protects women.

If they are getting bombed because religious "leaders" condemn females singing, I doubt it'll be as soon as 10 years. How long did it take to get women in the office here in the US and there was relatively little actual bomb-throwing preventing them.

The Chastity Pistols.
That... video. I was prepared to take them seriously up until the shot of the guitar player.

I can't for sure whether it's real or not, but the song is kind of catchy. It has a sort of ESG-type sound, with a dash of "Know Your Chicken" (Cibo Mato)

Well, I think we have the plot line for Dreamgirls 2: Burka Bugaloo.

When you bomb in Kabul, you really bomb in Kabul, am I rite?

I like Afghans n' Roses for a band name...

All that up-and-down movement under what looked like a blanket at the beginning made me think maybe you'd linked to the wrong sort of video....

Gives a whole new meaning to the term: getting stoned at the show, doesn't it?

It's a base. And it probably wouldn't look too unusual for an afghan.

psmealey FTW! each of your bandname suggestions made me giggle, but The Gang of Chador really slew me.

Thanks, numinous. I could go all day.

Some people can speak many languages, others can do open heart surgery, still others can fly state of the art aircraft... my special gift is naming bands.

No this is:
I think it is wrong to a muslim women to sing in a public place where men are present. There is no wrong, what so ever, for women to sing to their childern, husbands, and to the family as a group. But it is wrong to do so in public for money and for show.
