geek girl beats out just sex - Ev analyses click through rates on ads at weblogs.com - "I did a little sifting through the banner ads and stats at weblogs.com. The average click-through rate for all 689 ads is 0.60%."

I was fine up until the moment I saw those sunglasses.

This was pretty much noticed about a month into the banner ads. The most successful ones included a female-looking eye in some way. (I'm not sure that Zannah's, then, was among them: I didn't read her yet.) There was even some controversy over the blog called "sexlog" for a while when several people objected to having it display on their weblogs. It was all hashed out on the since-closed discuss.userland.com forum.

One also notes that the data may be somewhat ... stale. The weblogs.com banner ad page from which this is derived says: "Last update: Tuesday, December 28, 1999 at 7:15:09 AM". It's not clear whether that's the page template ... or the data. (Dave also hasn't updated the hotlist since December 2, 2000.)

xtrmntr, use Blogger much? Far as I'm concerned, Ev can do any damn thing with his site he wants.

I am really worried about Evhead. He seems to have the time to program Blogger, redesign his personal site, read all kinds of articles, write long essays, and do statistical analyses. And he has that awful Billy Vera and the Beaters song playing in his head (almost as bad as Michael Bolton, Celine Dion, and that song "Walking in Memphis"). He might be a victim of severe electronic addiction (like me, but more productive).

He needs to get out, breathe fresh air and take a walk in the park. Play with a puppy. But maybe he really does get out, but just doesn't sleep (also a bad thing).

Doesn't matter much anyway, weblogs.com seems to be going away soon.

Can't view that Yahoo Groups message since I'm not a member. What's it say?

I don't use Blogger and Ev can still do any damn thing with his site he wants. I liked "What Blog Readers Want." It was fun.

Dave's trial balloon has been popped. (He was just tired of only hearing complaints. Now that a few users of the service have buttered him up sufficiently :) he's agreed to keep it around. I've suggested that he at least document some of the site's issues right in the page so that the users understand it's a free, close-to-zero-support service.)
