DayTrotter is a music site I'd never heard of before today. I haven't explored all of their free mp3 offerings yet, but this 4-song set of Bonnie "Prince" Billy tracks is lovely. Three of the tracks are from the Strange Form of Life EP and the fourth, to my knowledge, is previously unreleased. If you want the missing track, emusic (my via) sells it.

Wow, this place is a freaking goldmine. I haven't listened to a lot of the tracks from artists I haven't heard of yet, but artists whose catalogs I already own and/or love are here in quantity. Terrific stuff from:

Nina Nastasia
Elvis Perkins
Jason Forrest
Two Gallants
William Elliott Whitmore
Casiotone for the Painfully Alone
Koufax
Thao Nguyen
Erin McKeown
Tokyo Police Force
Langhorne Slim
The Ponys
Dressy Bessy

This is a great site- I was introduced to it via The Velvet Teen.
Another cool site for live sessions is Planet Claire: Animal Collective, Gruff Rhys, Múm, The Firey Furnaces, and more (en français).

You are a wonderful mefite, dobbs.

I'm a nerd about alternate versions and the like, but I've slowly developed a hatred of bootleg recordings over the last few years. The alternative? Well-recorded, live to tape performances by some of my favorite bands. Fantastic.

(and seriously, Koufax? I haven't heard them in years. So excited.)

I am too lazy to link, but the Chicago Reader had a good article on daytrotter about a month ago. Thanks dobbs for beating me to the punch. Great post, great site.

I've been writing for Daytrotter since last year when my friends Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin got featured. The Field Music review that's up now is mine. Sean Moeller, the site's creator, is a great guy and got me press passes for Bonnaroo last year.

This is great. Thank you.

The WOXY Lounge Acts are another favorite of mine, but most of you probably already know about them.

I like Animal Collective, but the Planet Claire version of The Purple Bottle is just bad. They sound hung over, and maybe jet-lagged.

The Bonnie "Prince" Billy session, on the other hand, is fantastic.
