Great cache of interesting you tube clips including Alex Chilton, Paula Abdul stoned, The Pogues and James Brown drunk, Husker Du, John Lennon, and Captain Beefheart. And when was the last time you read something worthwhile on a music blog? Check out the Susan Choi post at moistworks. [And bonus essay from mefite gwint's wife!]

Holy crackle, this is a treasure trove! Hunter S. and Keef? Woody Allen and Billy Graham? Wow! Good find, vronsky!

I wonder if anyone has any clips of the Pogues sober.

Nice find, vronsky.

I wonder if anyone has any clips of the Pogues sober.

Hmmm... maybe the rest of 'em, but probably none of Shane!

moistworks is wonderful.

psmealy, they did a TV show here wherein they did a blow-by-blow of the recording of 'Fairytale' - the band were excellent, and all quite sober. Shane was drunk as a skunk, nearly unintelligible, completely toothless, green-skinned, and rolling around in a wheelchair (attended to by his enabler / gf). It was one of the most pathetic things I've ever seen.

I'd like to second the shout-out to Moistworks. It's one of the best in the long list of audioblogs I have bookmarked.

I'm amazed Shane is still alive, while everyone around him like Joe Strummer & Kirsty MacColl is dead.

I was just thinking the same thing mike3k. People like Shane & Keith Richards are like cockroaches thriving after a nuclear holocaust. I just don't get it.

Can anyone identify the film clips (Russian I think) shown in the "suicide hotline" and "painting the dress" links above?

Hey Card Cheat, I didn't know you were By-Tor. Been visiting your blog for years. Great site! Really well done.

I feel obliged to link directly to Jenny Offill's essay because it's great. And also because we're married.

Aww man! I wish I had known that gwint. I would have included it in the fpp. Beautiful writing! Please tell your wife that it moved me. And I remember that late October light in the city. On Lafayette street.

I wonder if cortex or jessamyn could fix this. I would love to see it linked on the front page. Not sure how to ask them though. metatalk?
