Database of Terror Attacks

The Global Terrorism Database is now available online. It includes information on more than 27,000 bombings, 13,000 assassinations, and 2,800 kidnappings. With 2D and 3D georeferences for some incidents. The interactive map isn't working for me though.

On a similar note there's the Global Incident Map, which is a Google Maps mashup to display similar events.

from that site, i like this one: Officials: Pakistani man was not planning attack on Camp Casey. The "incident" was that a man was innocent. TERROR ALERT

This CRS report on 'North Korean hostile actions since 1950' makes interesting reading (if you like reading this kind of thing). via FAS and Steven Aftergood.

No mention of Puerto Sandino I see. What a surprise.

On other similar notes there is the MIPT terrorism database and the NCTC terrorism database.

Both START and NCTC are department of homeland security "centers of excellence", so you might expect them to be using the same (or at least similar) data. But apparently not. It looks like the START data ends in 2004, while the NCTC data starts in 2004.

Tangentially, the award for best-named DHS center of excellence must go to the National Center for Foreign Animal and Zoonotic Disease Defense

Does it have the TSA list?

Great links thrako, thanks. Using Australia as a search criteria in each of the three databases throws up some interesting incidents. Samples: MIPT, NCTC, GTD. Classifying a terrorist act is hard.

UbuRoivas, if you're using GTD it isn't (and it won't be on NCTC - pre 2004), but here it is on MIPT.

I see that the July 7th London Bombings never really happened, then.

The GTD coverage stops in 2004.
