cont'd...The Scissors Sisters' version, She's My Man. Baseball à la Swan Lake and dancing skeleton. A little about kuroko, which incorporates aspects of bunraku, puppet theater (used in The Lion King Broadway version). Previously, Matrix Ping Pong.

This has been on for years and years, and it's a kind of "Idol" show in which anyone can audition and get on. An ex-girlfriend's father was on the show years ago. He and another group of people formed different faces with their bodies....or something.

[this is ...]
...all too familiar from what my wife is like at times...
[...and good]

Very creative. I've seen this type of theater in some of my travels, but this is definitely a top-notch performance. Makes good use of the art form's potential.

OK, I thought, as I was watching, that I had seen this before...but then it all went into reverse and I was goddamn caught UP! Thanks, nickyskye.

That looks more like a talent show than a performance art venue. Not that I'm saying the two can't mix, but it's unlikely. The response of the female performer at the end also makes it seem more like a talent show.

We alsways seem to be checking into a little ryokan late-night on some trip when we do a little channel surfing and find this on. It's always just the thing, too. Couldn't watch it regularly, but in small doses, love it.

Sorry, it is indeed a talent show. I'm sorry that it doesn't live up to your definition of high art, and I'm sorry that prevents you from finding it entertaining. I'll take it over American Idol any day.

Um, calm down. The OP says it's performance art. I just pointed out that it looked a lot more like a talent show.

I didn't find it as good as The Matrix ping-pong things these same guys did, but I found it entertaining.

OK?

The show is Kasou Taishou and a YouTube Search kept me laughing for hours yesterday.

kuroku is a kind of Japanese performance art done by stagehands dressed in black (or white or blue depending on the scene).

"Why is my girlfriend mad at me?" is an example of kuroko. There are other examples of kuroko -and a definition of it- in the comment just after the post.

zengargoyle, Thanks for the name of the show and finding the additional cool links.
