Government Accountability.

Meet 郑筱萸 (Zhèng Xiăoyú) [WIKI] Former head of the State Food and Drug Administration of China. Recently the quality of Chinese food and drugs has come under fire. You may have heard of tainted pet food from china killing cats and dogs. You might also have read about antifreeze in cough syrup made with impure Chinese glycerin killing people in other countries. Apparently someone in China cares about government accountability, because on May 29th Zheng Xiaoyu sentenced to death.

If you missed the story about what happened to the guy that brought apex dvd players to the us market, you might want to revisit. although this story takes the cake. and suspiciously eats it too.

So it's all his fault? I smell a scapegoat.

Sure he's a scapegoat, but at least they are going after a high level scapegoat who is actually responsible for something instead of some mid-level bureaucrat.

Bullet in the back of the head in a soccer stadium followed by kidney "donations"?

"...made with impure Chinese glycerin..."

It wasn't impure glycerin, it was diethylene glycol substituted for glycerin. And there was another announcement about that just today. This time it's toothpaste from China.

Steven, it was Glycerin tainted with DEG, not pure DEG.

Er, wait. It looks like it may have been a "replacement" in some cases.

It should be noted that Zheng has been jailed for nearly two years now. He wasn't at the head of the organization when the melamine fiasco happened.

Who's minding the store now???

Apparently someone in China cares about government accountability foreign trade profits

Fixed that for you. And could we please have accountability that doesn't involve killing someone? Thanks.

It sounds like there is a need to bring discipline to developing, registering and manufacturing drugs in China.

Ok, good, glad that's all resolved then. Moving on!

Ah yes, the death penalty, or as Republicans call it, "democracy."

Never fear. Their new scapegoat is the media. And if not, perhaps it should be blamed on a bad fengshui decision?

Less than 15 comments until blame is leveled at Republicans. My hat is off to you, sir.

“The death penalty wouldn’t be excessive punishment for [blank],” ... “[blank] was simply using the power given by the state to pursue his personal ambition.”

If we could fill in the blanks here in the United States, perhaps we could cut down on corruption as well. Death for white collar crime might be a powerful concept.

Apparently the Chinese have p0wned the vitamin market, too. Absolutely humongous vitamin and pharma going on over there.

I don't think there's anything the West has, except natural resources, that isn't already "taken" by some other nation. Shipping out our manufacturing and labour was a damnably dumb, dumb move.

Christ jesus. Is there no limit to the greed? The only beneficiaries of this stupidity are the war corporations.
