Red State Update with Jackie and Dunlap. Comic good ol' boys shooting the sh*t and having a few hundred beers, while using satire and dead pan humor on the politics of the day.

I believe those two are from my home state of Tennessee. The state flag behind them would imply that.

I've seen this on YouTube but been too chicken to watch it. I mean sure, they could be incisively and brilliantly satirical...but they could also be so stupid they cause me to break my computer, and then where would I be?

Bob and Doug MacKenzie did this on SCTV years ago. (They did it better, too.)

Just noticed this, nola. I'd never heard of these guys. I think we've both done some amount of hanging around with folks rather like these, growing up down south and all. And these 2 are pretty good at the shtick.

Well, they didn't do this, they did some kind of Canuck version. They are distinctly Canadian, their show was a different animal altogether. Did you really watch the Jackie and Dunlap clips? The accents, the tempo, the subjects, the back and forth, the feel of the whole thing is very, very different from Bob and Doug. And I happen to disagree that they did it better, if by it you're simply referring to the "two regular old guys sitting around talking" routine. I dunno, maybe you need to be Canadian to really get Bob and Doug. And maybe you have to be born and raised in the deep south (as I was) to get Jackie and Dunlap. Anyway, it's all good, eh? Whatever tickles your funny bone.

flapjax: No, the MacKenzies didn't do deep south, they did a different enthnos, but it's still the same routine. I lived in the south for more than 20 years and I understand using commonplace stereotypes as a form. What the MacKenzies did was to create stereotypes. Head and shoulders above this.

Head and shoulders. OK! If you say so!

I used head and shoulders once. It burn my scalp and I've never been the same eh?

Yeah, that stuff is wicked, nola. But, you know, it's essentially battery acid anyway, and battery acid did it much better. Much better.
