Mefites love cover versions. But are we ready for The Legion of Rockstars? To wit: "1) A bunch of people put on noise-canceling headphones. 2) They all listen to the same song and play along. 3)The results are recorded and set to the original music video. 4) Hilarity ensues" (myspace, via).

Sounds like The Residents. Only without the uh, weirdness.

I was hoping that this would be really funny. But it wasn't really all that funny.

I'm not sure much hilarity ensues for people who aren't these people or their friends and family.

Oh come on now, the Danzig one was flat out hysterical. The rest, meh.

Maybe that's just because I think Danzig's a big pussy and it's fun to see the voice finally match the glass jaw.

I'm ashamed to admit that this is exactly what I sound like when I sing Pearl Jam's "Evenflow".

That's just fantastic. Whatever is lacking in execution gets a great big boost for concept.

Jump indeed, David.

I know, right? Fucking 50 year old man getting knocked down with one punch. What a fag!

The Danzig was probably the best, but still shit. I couldn't tell if the guy had Downs or was just trying to emulate Glenn Danzig...which are not mutually exclusive.

My favorite -- "Everybody's Workin' for the Weekend."

These really do get better the more you watch them, and they certainly are stimulating to the experimental musician's brain.

Their version of "Don't Fear the Reaper" needs more cowbell.

Seriously.

It sounds excruciating. Assuage my fears.

"A bunch of people" made me think that there would be, like, a polyphonic spree's worth of people with three of every instrument under the sun making a glorious cacophony happen.

This was not that.

"Hilarity ensues" means it doesn't.

It sort of reminds me of a japanese game show clip that was going around a while ago, where a person who can't carry a tune hears a song on headphones, "sings" it, and a couple guitar players try to be the first to figure out what he's trying to sing. Does anybody know what that was?

I should think that even a self-proclaimed toughguy like Glenn would know that you don't shove a guy twice your size and then just stand there waiting for him to swing at you. He got caught posturing for his posse, and that makes him pussy.

If you're gonna fight, FIGHT.
