The Simpsons Movie website just went live. In 12 languages, apparently (including non-American English).

Only a few parts of it are working so far, but there's movie info, some games/downloads, and you can create a Simpsons avatar. Apparently a lot more to come.

BTW, make Bart hit both beer cans with his slingshot & you get 20 points of credit. Whatever that means.

It's like an 'exploration' CD-ROM game from the early 90s. Very weird.

What I'm curious about is that I have a feeling they're going to try to make it like a Simpsons mini-version of Second Life. Which could possibly be funny if done right.

I'm looking forward to this movie. Despite all the cries of "it's old and busted," The Simpsons is one of the few comedies that continues to make me laugh in unexpected ways.

Thanks ML!

No no no.... you back up (right arrow) then use up and down to raise and lower the crane to get maximum impact. Screw up like me and you get to see Homer get killed by the wrecking ball.

It's been a long time since I said RTFM. So I won't start now. :)

Non-sarcastic version of my previous comment:

The show has been a pitiful, hollow shell of itself LONGER than it was the funniest, most amazing show show ever on television. It's every cynical, lazy piece of marketing that it made fun of. And every year that it's on is more dilution of the fact that it used to be beyond brilliant.

"Homer Goes to College" is not walking through that door. "Burns Verkauft Den Kraftwerk" is not walking through that door. "Rosebud" is not walking through that door. And if you expect them to walk through the door, they're going to be gray and old.

So is every level of the wrecking ball game the same as the last one?

Unless they get the original group of writers, and transport them back in time to make them 15 years younger and poorer, I have my doubts that this will movie will be any flavor of good.

As noted in the instructions, the distance between the crane and the vehicle gradually increases, therefore requiring you to change the angle of the crane to optimize the impact. Which of course makes it the most wonderful game evar!

And yeah, what the fuck vronsky. I was hoping I was missing some kinda inside joke, because damn. :: Chivalrous sabre-rattling, etc ::

I remember a Matt Groening interview on Fresh Air quite a few years ago. When he was asked why a Simpsons movie was never done, he said that the idea had come up many times, and they could have gotten it done if only the producers could have seen fit to take "the second greediest position". As it was, the desire to maximize profit at every turn brought everyone to loggerheads over it.

I wonder if they had worked any of that out, or else they all just said "fuck it" and have produced a 100 minute product promotion and placement vehicle. The series has been out of original ideas for about 10 years now, so I strongly suspect the latter.

I do hold out a slim hope that they have tried to do something original and creative. Possibly a dark, twisted satire with few laughs.

Reasons not to click on the link:

* FOX TV is evil in ways that make Cthulhu look like Ernest Borgnine.
* Simpsons stopped being funny about when Maggie said her first word.
* Nancy Cartwright is a scientologist (i.e., she's got cooties! Ew!)
* the very idea of "Simpsons The Movie" ranks right down there with Addams Family The Movie and Brady Bunch The Movie and Dukes of Hazzard The Movie and Starsky and Hutch The Movie and Beverly Hillbillies the Movie and Car 54 Where Are You The Movie and The Movie The Movie...
* Out of respect for Phil Hartman (damn he was good)
* Clicking on that link would encourage this absurd behavior from Hollywood, meaning this shite will continue to continue, and the world will end and stuff.
* It's been twenty frikkin years, already. I know they're just cartoons but DAMN! At least in South Park they made it to the fifth grade. Sheesh! Simpsons is NOT Peanuts.
* If I were Tracy Ulman, I'd be even more bitter.

Reasons to click on the link:

* ...looks like it might be fun.

Probably gonna have to see the movie, if only because my other half is a fanatic Simpsons junkie from way back. Can't say I've enjoyed the show in the past couple of seasons, though.

It's sort of like that old episode with Troy McClure at the end saying, "That's it for our spinoff showcase. But what about the show that started it all? How do you keep 'The Simpsons' fresh and funny after eight long years? Well, here's what's on tap for season nine." And it's stills of Selma marrying Apu, the Bee Guy, and Itchy. And Troy McClure saying, "Wedding after wedding after wedding!"

That's exactly what the past two seasons have been like, intentionally or not.

Quin, to Rage Against The Machine is always worth it. 'Tis the modern day equivalent of tilting windmills.

Damn Dirty Ape: "Bigot much? How is this different from saying Matt Groening is a jew?"

The conclusive difference is that, scientifically speaking, jews do not have cooties. Scientologists however, do have cooties, in a higher concentration than any other descriptor for humanity's myriad stereotypical phylum species, and are therefore not allowed on my playground. Furthermore, the laws of physics are suspended in the presence of scientologists, because they have the distinct singular ability of blowing and sucking simultaneously. Vaccums therefore abhor their very nature.

I will now follow up my illumination of the cootie-infested contrast between jews and scientologists by pontificating upon the scientific definition of "the whammy."

pelican: "I believe Matt Groening is a Unitarian Universalist..."

Ah! Theology as Pot Luck! I like it!

Groening's cool. He is sans cooties.
