Quicktime panoramas of Kyoto

I found this by looking for images of the sammon (gate) in the Nanzen-ji complex. These really give you some idea of how massive this 17C wooden structure is. Some other faves from initial dipping include Otagi Nenbutsu, JR Kyoto station, and Fushimi Inari.

Kyoto looks truly amazing. I loved the panorama of the field of lavender wildflowers (outskirts of city, I assume? I can't read Japansese). Thanks for this.

It's very nice to see the inside-out view on the Nanzen-ji 17C. Nice site, arigato!

I love Kyoto. And Nara. Just sayin'.

Kyoto has some lovely temples and gardens and handsome old wooden structures, but it's so precious and full of itself. It can get on your nerves, all those locals practicing Japonisme...

But, god, the pickles are so good.

flapjax at midnight, if you like the pickles, and you have not already done so, you should check out the nearby town of Ohara, which sells nothing but.

Uh, English. D'oh! Thanks, stavros.

I walked right past it a couple hours ago to catch bus No. 5 back up to my place. of course there are many images of that gate online, but if you want any particular close-up images or anything like that just let me know. Although it's huge, just nearby is Chion-in, which is reputedly the absolutely largest such sanmon in Japan.

Funny thing about bustmakeupleave's comment, there is a Starbucks now just overlooking that spot where so many executions took place.

Kyoto - most disappointing city ever? so many nice gardens and temples surrounded by such ugliness.
