I am Murloc

I am Murloc. Cool World of Warcraft music video. (Note: Impressed me, but I've never played WoW. Might not impress WoW players, I dunno. Won't change your mind if you already hate WoW. Horrible vocals.)

That was at least as good as GWAR.

This video appears to be made by Blizzard themselves for Blizzcon. There's all kinds of custom stuff going on in that video that the average user-created machinima wouldn't be able to pull off.

...Kind of depressing if you haven't had a good breakfast. Not particularly life-affirming. Has an ad for Dell at the beginnning. Probably contributed to global warming in one way or another. Will end up on P2P networks attributed to Weird Al. Side effects may include vertigo, urine hesitancy, and chin acne. Probably won't kill your cat, but you never know.

GameVideo link didn't work for me, so here's an alternate.

I suspect that's a Blizzard production. They did something similar at the end of either WarCraft III or the expansion pack (memory fails me).

Fun to watch...with the volume off...

Wow, that was like an awesome mix of GWAR and ManOWar. It certainly made me smile.
posted by MrBobaFett at 10:37 AM on July 17, 2007

Speaking as a recovering WoW player and huge GWAR fan, there were not enough entrails!! But seriously, yeah, that was all custom code, you just can't do any of those emotes in game, and it was pretty kewl! I wonder how many hours of development it took to build that, I bet they have more in store for their $100/head Blizzcon event later this year.

I liked the axes. Certainly respectable designs for any metal band. The vocals were better in my opinion than a lot of "mainstream" metal out there, because for the most part I could actually understand this guy, although admittedly the subtitles helped a lot. I'm old. I come from an age when Meat Loaf was considered extreme, and Ozzy had JUST eaten the head off a bat. Good times.

City of Heroes was my poison, back when I had money and time to devote to it. WoW is not my thing, but a video like this does make me reconsider NOT trying it, which I imagine is what the people behind it are trying to do. However, learning that many objects and movements in the movie are not a natural part of the game? That makes me NOT reconsider. Talk about false advertising! I mean if I can't go raping and pillaging around the village while playing kickass metal on my axe, what's the point?

I mean, people really, really hate them.

They've gone beyond hate, for me, and now I revel in anything Murloc. I've created a ring tone out of the Murloc aggro sound, and I attach it in my blackberry to anyone that's generally annoying me. I nearly paid for a Blizzcon ticket just to get that damnable costume, as well as the pet last year.

...*sigh*

You can do a lot, whole heck of a lot, within the game enviroments, characters, etc. Some of the enviroments are painted so well that I've literally had an "Oh, wow" moment when first pulling up to them.

Having said that, sadly, no, no "axes", drum kits, though the outfits they were wearing did look like existing gear for the most part. I'm sure someone much more into WoW could name the specific shoulder pieces, etcetera.

I actually did this exact same thing. And then it caught on in our office... And now there are no less than three people who, when they get a phone call, are alerted by the shrill cry of the Murloc.

It actually messes with me in-game... every time a Murloc aggros I feel compelled to grab my phone.

I know I do. How come? I guess it's because they're very aggressive and wherever there's any of them, there's a lot of them. And their aggro noise is especially annoying and provocative.
posted by Ethereal Bligh at 1:16 PM on July 17, 2007

I find everything about murlocs totally adorable, especially their aggro noise, but I'm just weird like that.
posted by arianell at 1:23 PM on July 17, 2007

Murloc Hate is because you spend between levels 10 and 40 or so encountering them, they're REALLY aggressive, come in packs and if you're not good at dealing with multiple mobs, you die a lot. And they give crappy loot.

The noise can be annoying (true story, I used it for a D&D game where my players were fighting fish-men. I gave my now-ex-roommate a complex where she'd just twitch violently every time the murloc noise came up in Wow)

One of the best things ever is to get to level 60 or so, go to the Wailing Caverns and kill the giant murloc over and over and over and over...

I went on a murloc slaughtering campaign when I hit 60. It was glorious.

I know. And if this thread were full of people complaining about how horrible it was, it would be a point well taken and I'd be right chastened. But because the "X, seriously?" comment is used to express the emotion of "X is so obviously horrible and bad that you must be joking by posting it", and the responses here don't seem remotely to indicate that it's that horrible, I just decided to treat the comment as the non-sequitor that it was.

I love murlocs in all their watery ferociousness. I had murloc scale armor, even. You have to collect a lot of scales for that.

That was, you know, before I had a real life.

Upon further reflection I'm gonna have to agree with the vocals. I wouldn't say terrible. I would say inappropriate for the genre of music. Not just because it's understandable, but for this kinda song you need a voice that's either like chalkboard scratching, or a zombie with a megaphone shoved down his throat. This guy sounds like a seventh grade math teacher who does the weekend warrior thing with his hippie friends. They need someone with real pipes. IF this is an in-house thing, you'd think they'da been able to hire the guys from Quiet Riot or something.

BTW, murlocs aren't nearly as annoying when you're an affliction 'lock. Just sayin.

My favorite was that quest where you go to a village and set a cage full of Murlocs free. They then proceed to terrorize the camp with their dancing and singing.

Seriously though, nothing is cuter in WoW than a murloc with a top hat and cane dancing and making those cute little grunts and squeaks.
