1960's anti-pron propaganda movie
July 21, 2007 10:38 PM   Subscribe

This short film begins on a somber note...railing against the dangers of pornographic magazines in the 1960's, but as it progresses, the images it shares with the viewer are more and more tantalizing...from nudity, to promotion on sodomy, to bestiality (really, just a farmgirl pic with a goat in the far background), to hardcore S&M and B&D...all displayed for the soon-not-innocent eyes of the film's target market.

It kind of reminds me of the old "Artists and models" series that was shown on TV a long time back.
A full documentary about an artist's life that was presented just for the sake of showing a minute of a nude model posing.
This was hotter though, especially toward the end.

One of the best breast bondage clips I've ever seen - and that includes countless samples from the internet - was in a feminist anti-porn documentary. My google search suggests it was probably Not A Love Story. Neither Netflix nor Blockbuster's got it. Anyone know where I can rent it?

I remember one of my friends and I doing an impromptu MSTKing of this very film a few years back when we discovered it over at the Archive.

It should also be noted that these films were bankrolled by none other than one Mr. Charles Keating, Esq.

Also, I always kinda figured that those "MEGA MUSCLE FITNESS" mags with 43 pages of rock hard, oiled up men were, um, not exactly targeted towards the pro-fitness crowd.

Clay201..."Note A Love Story" was my first exposure to non-magazine porn. :)

No idea where you could find it, but it *was* played on (Canadian) TV in the mid-80s. I can still picture the (rather scrumptious) documentary filmmaker who agreed to post nude in the documentary for one of the major magazines (Hustler?). I should watch that again to see if it (and she) has the same appeal.

FWIW, that anti-porn documentary made me much more interested in porn.

I had a dozen or so jokes ready, but this was too easy. On a serious note, I was watching "Sin City" on TV the other night and I noticed that cursing was edited out yet all of the extremely horrific violence was aired. They showed decapitation but wouldn't allow the word 'fuck'.

Years ago, I saw "Caligula" at a theater. A woman was there with her very young daughter, maybe 6 or 7 years old. I have no idea why the theater allowed the girl in, but they did. For those who have never seen the movie, there are both very explicit disturbing scenes of violence in the movie and explicit sexual scenes. At each sexual scene, the mother escorted her daughter out to the lobby so she couldn't see it. She said something like, "You're too young for this." But the cruel violence was ok. The U.S. is pretty fucked up.

In the mashup link, at the two minute mark, you see the "two billion dollars" illustration. (I don't see it in the unmashed version, but it looks like it came from the original anti-porn film). The businessman raking in the cash... is it my imagination, or is that an ugly, anti-semitic stereo-type I'm looking at?

The massive lips, the big bushy eyebrows, the big cigar, the chubby body, the evil, greedy look in the eyes, and the arms encircling huge piles of money. Of course, the nose isn't big and protruding, which you would kind of expect in an anti-semitic caricature, but it is almost supernaturally wide.

George Putnam is still alive and kicking, has a syndicated conservative radio show, and is one of the few radio commentators who is older than the medium itself. Apparently, clean living does pay off.

Putnam was widely believed to be the inspiration for the character of Ted Baxter on The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

I prefer Ted, but that is interesting.

Keating, who sponsored the hilariously prurient film said, "One can consult all the experts he chooses, can write reports, make studies, etc., but the fact that obscenity corrupts lies within the common sense, the reason, and the logic of every man." Somehow the sense of what is right or wrong has some kind of logic that only applies to others because he then went on to defraud hundreds of old folks of their life savings.

"In September 1990, Keating was criminally charged with having duped Lincoln's customers into buying worthless junk bonds of American Continental Corporation; he was convicted in state court in 1992 of fraud, racketeering, and conspiracy and received a 10 year prison sentence. In January 1993, a federal conviction followed, with a 12 and a half year sentence. He spent four and a half years in prison, but both sentences were eventually overturned." And no remorse for his criminal greed, "Keating remains essentially unrepentant, maintaining that not his mistakes but regulators' actions were ultimately responsible for the losses."

Yet another deluded -and socially dangerous- right wing crook. Check out his really scary face on his website. yikes.

It's easy to point and laugh at the crazies, but in fact, the ideology and organizations behind these films have only grown stronger and more influential over the years. As mentioned upthread, these films were produced by Charles Keating and the Citizens for Decent Literature (later Citizens for Decency through Law). CDL evolved into Citizens for Community Values. CCV is headed by Phil Burress, a former "pornography addict" and a spiritual descendant of Keating. CCV and Burress successfully spearheaded the gay marriage ban that was on the ballot in Ohio in 2004. That amendment drove Ohio's cultural conservatives to the polls in droves, and they just happened to vote for George W. while they were at it, handing him the election in the process. CCV is still active in Ohio politics, and when they talk, people listen.

I had a similar experience watching the Godfather on TV. During the scene where Michael makes love to his Italian wife, they blur out her boobs. Luca Brasi's garrotting, Sonny getting riddled with bullets and assorted other mayhem? all intact, but if we see nipples al hell's gonna break loose apparently.

I think if you pay attention you'll find that the people who stand up and rant about the morals of others more often than not turn out to be people who are fighting with their own personal moral demons. This fear of being discovered makes them go out of their way to condemn in others that which they most fear in themselves as a way of subterfuge.

Imagine how embarrassed I would have been if I, as a woman, went out in assless chaps.

Thank you for clearing that up, George Putnam!

I'm completely unfamiliar with the cigar = jewish stereotype, and the caricature in the video has a broad, flat nose, which is very unlike the stereotypical jewish hook nose.

in all the years i spent supervising a tiny porn section in a large bookstore, one observation always held true: it is the most perverted people who object the most, the ones who would come up to me all wild-eyed about having to glimpse boobie five feet away from them... in full view, they would exclaim... if you actually stopped cold and stared. people going about their business wouldn't even notice it. we would have Catholic protesters outside mourning that 2% of the store, and Mennonite tourists heading straight to the religious and children's books, happy as clams that they could get their homeschooling supplies so cheaply. they never appeared to notice the section's existence.

that guy is so clearly turned on... wonderful stuff.
