If you miss the old days of rocketboom...

Morgan Webb (G4tv, Maxim hottie) now offers a 5-minute, tech-oriented news video blog called WebbAlert every weekday.

I watched an episode and it was less cable-accessy as Morgan's past efforts (including current G4TV).

Not bad, but is it better than other efforts? Not sure.

And by other efforts I mean Rocketboom, etc. (just to clarify).

Morgan Webb was on Rocketboom? I'm sorry I quit watching.

She made G4 programming moderately tolerable - solid sarcastic and had some chops.

No. Sorry for the confusion. Amanda Cogdon was on Rocketboom and left. Morgan's new venture is being compared favorably to the late days of Rocketboom, but admittedly, I think the parallels are being drawn mostly because Amanda and Morgan are both busty.

Damn my crappy comments. I meant is WebbAlert any better than Rocketboom, geekbrief.tv, and others (that she wasn't in).

One note - I am curious to see if people on Metafilter choose to evaluate how good WebbAlert content is v. evaluating how hot Webb is or is not.

She's a little too... expressive, but it's telling that after I watched an episode I immediately looked up her status on wikipedia. Give me a piece of that home slizzle.

Morgan Webb is totally meh.

does anyone believe that is her real name?

Not everybody agrees that Morgan is hot.

I found this to be nearly unwatchable. (Note: just because you've got spiffy graphics and a cute host doesn't mean you have a show.)

Morgan Webb's lack of personality (and perhaps wit) made me feel like I was stuck watching a news reader from Ananova.

Uncanny valley, indeed!

Okay, I posted my comment before clicking any of the links. And. The first story was about the iPhone. Specifically the news that a software update let users program in 50 speed dial numbers rather then just 20. That's pretty fucking serious right there!

Take away the physical charms and geeks wouldn't pay attention.
No shit huh?

Ms. Webb can do no wrong.

Especially in my pants.

At least Morgan Webb obviously knows games, and likes them, plus she has a decent head on her shoulders - enough to be able to go toe-to-toe with Adam Sessler most of the time, even on live TV.

That's a LOT more than you can say for most of the other girls on G4. Comic book girl, I forget her name, is pretty good and obviously knows her stuff too. But although Olivia has gotten a whole lot better than she was at first, she's still awful. The other girls on there... omg they are so incredibly bad and stilted, it's almost unwatchable (especially Layla what's her name). If it wasn't for the fact that I really like games (and Attack of the Show comes on while I bike), it would be unwatchable despite the fact that I like Adam and Kevin.

I soooo miss Sarah Lane, though, she was really good.

Back on topic, the WebbAlert isn't all that. It has potential, though.

Awe, poor Morgan. She needs a new gig.

Not bad to listen to.

It's a bit rough, but after, what, three episodes, it's hardly fair to be too demanding. I've added it to my podcast list and will happily give it a few weeks to see if it irons itself down.

and gemmy, I'm with you 100% on Sarah Lane, but I still like Olivia. :-(

Does she have tourettes? Why does she keep overaccentuating her smiles & facial tics? I felt like I was watching a sexier version of Great Moments With Mr Lincoln.

I think it is odd that all of the federated media related blogs are posting repeatedly about this.

Also most of the stories mentioned (At least for the first episode)were from federated media related blogs.

that is all.

I met her in a coffee shop right down the street from the TechTV studios. I was there for one of the very first audience tapings of "The Screen Savers."

I tried to say "Hi, how are you?" but all that came out was a horrible squawk.

Man, I got no game.

Weirdly enough she and I share a first name and a birthday.

I do respect her because she is a self-taught comp geek and not just an attractive flashpoint for lonely geeks.

That said, she's way, way, way too smiley and breathy for my taste. Whatever.

Heh. The problem with TV (and internet video) is not a lack of attractive women.

To follow-up on Freen's comment...surprise! The show is hosted on Federated Media's servers:

The whole show is Pepsi Blue...

Well, you had to know that there was some money behind it. There's a lot more razzle dazzle and higher production values than Rocketboom ever had. But the stories stories don't seem to be necessarily FM related, are they? I figured Webb started doing this just because she figured that, despite Adam Sessler, you don't really have much to look forward to as a video game reviewer after start getting deeper into your 30's.
