Urban Scarecrows! A fundraising project of the Great Torrington Cavaliers, encouraging private households and businesses to make and display scarecrows. The entries include Spiderman, Spongebob Squarepants, an elderly Superman, pirates, and much more. Proceeds from the project will go toward the annual Great Torrington Bonfire in November. Via.
Venadium, this is not about evil scarecrows! It is about FUN scarecrows! Shame on you!

Fun they may be. Urban they certainly aren't. I don't think *anything* in Devon counts as urban.

This could be a good thing here in Tokyo, where crows are a major frikkin' nuisance.

By Devonside she was a-marching
It was a gang of no great size
Question, though, PeterMcDermott, from this ignorant Yank: does Devonside refer to Devon, or some other locale, perhaps?

This one is sweet. And I'm glad they eventually got table service.
This one reminds me of those guys who dress up in creepy nylon lady facemasks/wigs, though.

A whole different country. Devonside is in Scotland -- not far from Edinburgh, whereas Devon is the deep South West.

I can only image the hilarious local news coverage when someone nearsighted calls the cops.

This sort of thing has been around for a while. My former home village of Wadhurst in East Sussex has a scarecrow festival every year. Here's the poster for the 2002 edition, which wasn't the first.
Quite fun.
