Peter Levine promotes civic engagement in Maryland youth and is working with Prince George's County to create an 'information commons.' He writes about citizenship (1, 2, 3), Iraq (1, 2, 3), literature (1, 2, 3), and other things.

Forbidden: The 'information commons' kicks me out. I don't have permission apparently. A little ironic.

Is there one link I should read to understand why Mr. Levine matters?

You can find the 'information commons' link less directly by clicking on the 'Prince George's County' and then hitting 'Headlines" in the upper left.

The same thing I'm afraid. The whole site is forbidden to me.

Sorry, dude. I'm coming at it on a wireless residential link in another state, so I think it's publicly accessible.

To answer your other question, Levine is a researcher and organizer who writes about civic participation and youth engagement. If it matters, he's a Rhodes scholar and the the director of a bunch of fancy-sounding institutes and centers. But for my purposes, he matters because he writes a daily blog that's usually insightful and orthogonal to normal political partisanship. He writes books of fiction, philosophy, and political theory, but unlike most academics, he spends his work time organizing and educating in a way that focuses of citizenship and action. I like that about him.
