Traveling soon?

Wanted to know where to buy smoke in Ketchikan, Alaska? Here is a community written travel site where the advice can be dramatic, "Traffiking=DEATH....Don't get caught!!!!!!," or oddly politically topical.
Or just plain helpful.
Bon Voyage!
T'was born there more than 26 years ago. Sadly, I don't remember anything about it.

I lived there for a bit in 1996. (Tried to move there and failed...) What an interesting coincidence to see that place as the first example here.
It's a strange town... Part of me would like to go back and try living there again, but without a good bit of money (read: ability to go a long ways away, likely back to flat land) a few times a year I'd probably go nuts.
Maybe it'd be a good place to retire to...

You wanted your first metafilter post to be a "Worldwide Marijuana Travel Guide?"
Really?

Well, psmom could have posted it to travel.metafilter.com and it would have been really useful.

Nice!
But is this more of a local issue or are they making it "official" so the feds have a harder time wading in and fucking around with no-harm-no-foul that has already been in effect for a while?
They have the medical marijuana thing in there, but are the local cops still going to enforce against people who don't have permits - did they even go after people without permits before this bit of legislation?

The only time I've ever been randomly hit up to buy weed was in a little restaurant in Seward, Alaska.

Awesome! I'd like to see the formula used to assign each town its tolerance score.
This widget here is especially fun.
(This is a fine first post)

I didn't realize Tehran was so pot tolerant. I hate them for their freedom!

Great idea. And then show a gradient map of tolerance across the country...and then the world.

The Vancouver entry would be more accurate if they pointed out that "where you can buy" is "everywhere, and you will probably be offered whether you want it or not". I grew up in a drug-filled neighbourhood in Toronto, but the only time I've ever been both asked for drugs and offered drugs was the one day I spent sitting in a Vancouver park.

Being on vacation in Lisbon or Sicily North-African men show some well-kneaded lump in the palm of their hands when you walk by and say "pssst, hashchisch?".
That groses me out. Being Dutch I'd at least need a menu to choose and the stuff carefully weighed and packaged.
And even then I'll probably leave it to the tourists.

Ok, so the scale says 1=very illegal, and 5=legal, or virtually so. So, in Johor, you get executed for trafficking or possession of large quantities, or thrown in a hole for decades for small quantities. And that's a 2. I'd hate to see what happens in a place rated 1.

Maybe you look like a cop? Or maybe I just look like a stoner?
It's happened to me in Panama, The Bahamas, Belize, Sri Lanka, Fiji and so on and so on and so on...

Their geography's a bit controversial - one list for the United Kingdom (minus Belfast but including Jersey) and a separate one for Scotland. Their entry for Wales seems to be about Limerick and the one for London degenerates into an alarming load of nonsense about clubs, cabs and car hire.

I get this everywhere too. Short hair, clean-shaven, straight-dressing, and mysteriously attractive to drugs.
