She looks like a giant bug.

Hey now, no making fun of Bjork. Of all those assembled, she's the only one there with the least bit of artistic integrity.

True dat. Well, not the only one, but one of few.

it looks like someone took a normal pic of winona and mucked around with one of those kai tools for photoshop.

kudos to the photographer, though.

Anyone notice this? Embargoed?

I think the real scandal is that they let Vincent Price impersonate Bob Dylan for his performance. From the grave, no less.

He wasn't bad, really.

"Actress Jennifer Lopez shows off her jewelry...". That's not all she was showing off.

Embargoed means "We'll give it to you (news organization) now so you can go ahead and mock up your newspaper/web page/whatever, but don't actually publish it until the time we tell you." It's very common practice, usually to either keep any one news outlet from faux-scooping everyone else or to ensure that nobody runs with information about a private event for which somebody else has paid for exclusive live rights.

If Yahoo's auto-publishing system was working properly, that line would have been stripped out before the picture was posted.

the russell crowe reaction shots were fairly entertaining.

but i loved bjork! her voice is just so real, like i was trying to imagine a moment similar to the one in 1999 (was it '99?) when trisha yearwood and elliott smith and celine dion held hands and took a bow, one with her and (ew) sting (ew) and randy newman. during the preshow she said something like 'it would be nice to try it once,' where once i guess meant singing on the oscars?

then the ET-droidtype asked her about her dress. "my friend made it," she said. the room i was in cheered.

that was pretty much the end of the interview.

"... friends don't make friends wear swans."

I think bjork did some designer a favor by not telling who designed the monstrosity.

I think the real scandal is that they let Vincent Price impersonate Bob Dylan for his performance.

I thought Dylan was the best part of an otherwise dull show. I didn't know he had a song up for nomination, but I'm glad the academy took advantage of the chance to see him give an acceptance speech.

Patricking, you're quite welcome.

It's been a loooooooooooong time since Heathers, hasn't it?

Yup, the song ran over the end-credits to Wonder Boys. For such subtle placement it made quite an impression.

But the Bobster wasn't being played by Vincent Price. It was Salvador Dali. And to imagine sitting in the front row with a Dali-esque Dylan towering 25 feet over your head ... I wouldn't sleep for a week.

JLo showed nip? Good grief, is THAT all people can come up with? Actually, all in all, the dresses were quite conservative, unless you count retro as outré. I did like seeing more variety on the men, though (hey, quiet, I was looking at the women, I just think 1000 women wearing something different and 1000 men wearing near-identical tuxedos is warped).

And once again, they have the completely fuXored idea that the key to a successful Oscar telecast is getting the winners to shut up. Hey, boneheads -- those are the only moments of life in your show! Cases in point: Julia and Russell.

Did anybody else think that the kidnapping joke (which was in bad taste but rescued by an unscripted Hanksian moment) had a Meg Ryan subtext?

And Steve. Steverino. The Stevester. A little more life, next time, okay?

What's really eerie about the Winona picture is that it's eerily similar to a picture of Bjork featured in Q magazine a few months back (w/Radiohead on the cover.) I'll see if I can scope out a scan, but it's almost a mirrored copy of Bjork's expression.

The best-dressed person at the awards, male or female, was Rick Baker. The man looked so frippin' cool! I stood about 3 feet away from him once, but was too flustered to approach him. Maybe I could have gotten some fashion tips...

I found a pic of one audience member's reaction to Bjork's swan dress.

All of you, take back what you said about Bjork right now. I mean it.
For someone who was shut out of a best actress nomination (she OWNED the finest performance last year) and whose song should have swallowed Bob Dylan's gargling--she looked stunning. YOU try wearing a swan and see how you pull it off.

maura, when she said it's nice to try it once, she was talking about acting.
