I don't call 5 out of 10 winning.

Though it says a lot about what type of women the Fox Corporation is putting in front of the camera, I think it also says a lot about the quality of women working in porn today.

These aren't your grandfather's butter faces.

I thought I was so smart until I failed to realize that Audrey Bitoni, late of No Man's Land: Interracial Edition #6 was not a journalist.

Hint: The Fox anchors are more heavily made up.

Porn stars are much much more respectable than news anchors anyway.

I got 4/10, dumber than the monkey statistically speaking. Can we have more free rice and mechanical aptitude instead?

7/10. I should have gotten 9/10 but I waffled on two and didn't go with my gut.

The key was to spot the bigger whore - it's always in her eyes.

Finally, Radar brings you a quiz you can totally win.

We're all losers now.

The trick is always to vote porn star. That way, you get all the porn stars right, and you get to call all the Fox women whores.

8/10. Definitely in the expression. You have to ask yourself: Does she look like she'd prostitute her conscience and body to get ahead or does she look like a porn star?

I lost. 3/10. Damn you Ambrosia for getting my hopes up.

Hm, 10/10. Earrings, whether her hair's off her forehead or not, was it a 3/4 pose or face-on—there are lots of things to look for. And I watch a lot of porn.

6/10 mostly guessing. DU already made the joke I wanted to, only better, so I'll leave it at that.

Though I do find it somewhat interesting that a quiz like this could even exist. It's fairly damning that the news industry in general, and Fox in particular hires people that could so easily be mistaken in this way.

I think it's a sort of vacuous look-at-me-I'm-pretty-and-important-and-people-pay-attention-to-me thing that they share.

I got 8/10 by judging strictly on the background graphic. (There are some freebies because several photos are clearly taken from the same source.)

That said: I don't quite get the point. Given a large enough (telegenic) pool to choose from, couldn't you just as easily do: Pornstar or Lawyer? Pharmaceutical Rep? Prison Warden? Waitress?

In other words: some TV personalities are hot. News at 11.

You don't think this quiz could be interpreted as sexual harassment in any other setting? While the Fox folks may be a bunch of crypto-fascists, this quiz ain't very nice.

7/10 depending on poise. And we don't get Fox News in these parts. :-|

Skammer: I have this nagging suspicion that Radar's main intent was to make all those cringe-worthy puns in a neat, rounded-edge Flash UI.

Which is not to support those Fox News journalists or anything; I'm sure they're scum of the earth and all that.
posted by the cydonian at 7:20 PM on October 26, 2007

10/10, utterly trivial. I don't understand how you can't tell most of 'em even if you've never seen Fox News or porn.

I've never watched Fox News or much porn and the only person I recognized, porn star or "journalist", was Tera Patrick.

Uh, unless you're kidding... 5/10 is what you'd expect from someone randomly guessing. Remember that it is precisely as hard to get 0/10 as to get 10/10 if the choice is random.
posted by Justinian at 10:29 PM on October 26, 2007

8/10. There's a certain look to the Fox News women, kind of shockingly (i.e., shocking to the mainstream) masculine & aggressive.

When would being mistaken for a professional from a different part of your industry be harrassment?

Yeah, I thought about this...rather, I recognized that being a porn star or whatever is not inherently dirty/immoral/bad, or whatever, but everything has it's place and time, right?

Newscasters are not in the porn biz. As well, not everyone considers porn to be legitimate, and some women may feel threatened by it. While you may not agree with that set of values, you still have to respect the right to hold different values and opinions, and acknowledge that, for some folks, being compared to a woman who gets fucked up the ass for a living could be considered harassment - I've read the HR policy at my company.

And I can't believe I'm having an argument with Ambrosia Voyeur.

I'm with Koku—This quiz could have been done with any professional women with headshots. Seemed another cheap way to conflate professional women and porn stars.

treepour: 8/10. There's a certain look to the Fox News women, kind of shockingly (i.e., shocking to the mainstream) masculine & aggressive.
10/10, and for similar reasons: you could tell the Fox ones because- don't hate me- the all looked older and more mannish. The pornstars had mostly more of the dewy-eyed, feminine look of the porn star, while the Fox women had that angular faced Ann Coulter-esque quality. You know- sunken cheeks, prominant jaw line, Cryptkeeper bone structure. Why do Republicans find that look so attractive, and is that related to all Republicans in power being closeted homosexuals?
posted by hincandenza at 12:42 PM on October 27, 2007

Koku: I was just asking as a hypothetical.

klangklangston: I think it's more about taking a potshot specifically at FOX, and their continually tenuous relationship between moralism and sensationalism. Not that it's clever about it. I don't know where you get this implied legacy of professional women's conflation with porn starts, but at least I'm pretty sure my work's headshot of me isn't going to be mistaken for a porn star's any time soon.
