What level of Arcane spell is that?

You never hear about a psychic winning the lottery, but apparently witchcraft is worth a shot.

My wiccan friends are going to be insufferable about this, I can just feel it.

He told the Associated Press that his school will teach not just about Wicca but also about multiple spiritual traditions, as well as offering training in practical skills like financial management.

If he decides to call it Bunky Bartlett's School o' Witchin' and Cypherin', I would totally, totally sign up.

Well, I think the "Wiccans" are a little silly, but I'm so totally behind this guy I cannot express. People get their stupid lottery money and they do nothing, nothing at all lifechanging with it. This guy deserves all the success in the world with his crazy plan.

What's with the scare quotes around "Wiccans"?

Actually, I suppose Wiccans would be casting Divine spells, wouldn't they?

I work for for an online educational advertising company, and I fully expect to see Bunky as a client. He'll be one of those guys who sends us a crappy bmp logo and a stock photo with the watermark still on it, too.

(okay, but seriously, good for him.)

The scare quotes around "Wicca" are, I dunno, perhaps because it's a new thing masquerading as an old one.

I might well put quotes around "New Age" as an old thing masquerading as a new one.

Probably not really justified in either case. I approve of people doing this sort of thing -- one should be free to do as one wilt. I'd rather hang out with Wiccas than Repigs.

How is this different than a "Christian" winning the lottery and using the money to open a church? Religion always comes from power and money. 2000 years from now the year may be 2000 A.B.

I don't think this is the religion for me. I wish there was a religion that would encourage me to eat flesh and drink blood on a weekly basis.

Um, because this happens all the time in Christianity and never to my knowledge in Wicca before?

What's with the "man-dress" that this guy is wearing? Shop at Mystical Voyage, for all your wiccan supplies and male Mu-Mu needs.

shakes his head,

The Sunday morning after the big lottery drawing Bunky was on local TV telling his story about how he watched the drawing on friday, bought a brand new Explorer on Sat, and was planning on getting his ticket verified when the Lottery offices opened on Monday morning.

forsees Bunky being broke in 2 years.

Rock on with your crazy dress wearing self, big boy. But buy a lot, a lot of insurance, cause the crazies in white have bigger firebombs than the crazies in black.

I'm all for pagans, don't get me wrong. I like Gaia, and I'm all for people worshiping, protecting, and preserving her. But the loonies who wander around thinking that Gerald Gardener was a prophet and that they're only one or two rituals away from being "magik"...well, my opinion is that those people are just as deluded as the transubstantiation crowd, the backwards chanting Crowley devotees, and anyone who thinks that a science fiction writer with a penchant for profit was actually gifted with the knowledge of of alien beings who put souls in a volcano.

A relative has done work for Bunky and recently received a car from him (cars were also given to several other employees) but keep in mind that Mr. B is also an accountant and he's stashed most of the money away (or so I've heard).

This news segment shows the biggest problem I have with some wiccans, people who insist on changing their name to shit like Blackthorn or Silver Ravenwolf. Come on I won't even inflict names like that on my D&D characters.
