They think Copenhagen is in Sweden. I gave up after that.

I must say I'm impressed. Usually it takes me at least 3 minutes to get frustrated at something.

Most of the locations seem alright to me. I haven't had Copenhagen though.

Interesting....but I have a natural hatred for anything that changes the size of my browser.

41160 points, and I still can't play the last level? Gah!
posted by goodnewsfortheinsane at 3:51 PM on November 20, 2007

Seems that even when you click right on the darn city, the closest you evidently can get is about 100 km away.

Anyway, 363801, level 10 on my first try, which equates to a traveler's IQ of 111, or some such.

Otherwise, it doesn't help when (pressured by a 2-second click) you erroneously click on Mauritius instead of Mauritania.

I got Copenhagen too, and the suggested location seemed reasonable to me, even on such a small map (Copenhagen *is* in the far east of Denmark).

Gah again: I meant 411640 pts.

Closest I got was 29 km, btw.

I know my place.

Eesh: 290,760. Level 9, "IQ 103".
Feel better than me (or worse).

Got 20 km just now for Battle of Hastings.

the closest you evidently can get is about 100 km away.

I got 62 kilometers away on Boston, but after that I was pretty much off by 500 - 1000k on every thing else. Though in my rush I misread Vienna, Austria as Victoria, Australia. I was something like 12,000 kilometers off with that mis-click.

I suck.

Not sure why they resize my browser to show me a tiny lil map.
posted by Lizc at 4:08 PM on November 20, 2007

Well, I could barely see Florida, much less click on the precise location of Miami.

Somehow, though I managed to land within 39 km of Stonhenge. Go figure.

379,042 for me, topping out at level 10, IQ 113.

The closest I got was 7 km... I think it was Salzburg. And I somehow managed to get within 20 km of Weno, Micronesia. I should buy a lottery ticket tonight.
posted by jal0021 at 4:11 PM on November 20, 2007

Bah. I failed level 5 because I got Tunisia mixed up with Tanzania in my rush to click. Ah well, at least I knew the bloody continent.
posted by darksasami at 4:14 PM on November 20, 2007

Yeah, I can't get higher than 10. The difficult ones are the large countries, where it could be thousands of kilometers away for no good reason. Or the obscure ones that could just as well be in the South Pacific, Africa or South America. All I know is, if someone told me I was in Suriname, I wouldn't know which way was home.

Level 10, 114. Asking where Vanuatu is is just plain evil - you can't even SEE it on that map.

Finally got to 12 on the last attempt, 541,185. I've got a headache now.
posted by goodnewsfortheinsane at 4:37 PM on November 20, 2007

Also, I got 12,000-something km on Fairbanks (parsed US first and clicked somewhere in the middle of the lower 49, *then* remembered it was in Alaska). :)

You can still get points on those brainfarts if you click quickly.
posted by goodnewsfortheinsane at 4:39 PM on November 20, 2007

Wait a minute, Fairbanks to the middle of the US is nowhere near a five-figure km distance. I'm convinced that's what it said, though.

Map is too small for anyone to be accurate enough, especially when you are clicking on a European or Japan location.

Not so. I actually scored 3km away for the Sydney Opera House and routinely (on the lower levels, anyway) get under 100km.

They think Copenhagen is in Sweden.

Sure you're reading the color of the flags right? It's pretty close, anyway.

My highest so far is 430,000-something on level 10. I got less than that total last game, but came within about 500 points of advancing to 11.

Also, if you don't click anything ... watch out!

My major gripe is not being able to see the smaller countries or island nations on their map at all.

Wow, I kind of sucked at this the first time. Only 92. And I'm not trying again, because I envision several obsessively-wasted hours ahead if I do.

In my defense, however:

1. I am a hermit after all, and thus I haven't seen that much of the world.

2. Using the touchpad to scroll my screen resulted in several inadvertent-click, thousand-mile misses - I do know Montreal is not in the middle of the Pacific, honest...

Ridiculously good fun! I've played far too many rounds and finally made it to level 11.
I never realized how woefully ignorant I am (well, *was*, now) of African geography.

599,434, level 12.

Stupid Bouvet Island (wtf, Norway?) kept me from breaking 600,000.

I did get within 4 km of Doha, Qatar, though, so that's pretty fulfilling, I guess.

I got 395,902 at level 10, first attempt. I actually got one within 2 km of the target (went too fast to remember which one)! It was mostly luck for that. Some of those I was clueless where in a country they might be. Or, for example, how can you aim for Zurich, on that tiny map? I know perfectly well where it is. Or trying to hit Yellowstone, on a blank map of the USA? LOL! And yea, a few I was in the wrong part of the world. (I'm a map lover and have always loved geography anyway. And it helped that I live in Africa, and knew quite precisely where Durban is).

Level eleven, with a 4km answer - and then I was 100 km of the capital of my own country. I put the high score down to the fact that I've been playing something vary similar (although possibly with a marginally better map) at Geosense, and managed to remember such useful things as the location of Shenzen.
