What more evidence could one ask for? Sorry to continue with the 123cheaphosting incident, but I found their site back up and their images folder un-indexed (if you know what I mean). There's also a stolen image from Corbis in there somewhere.

they came up with an original and professional layout pretty quickly; why couldn't they do that before? at least they apologize to matt on the bottom of the main page. that's worth something.

I think thats a bit of a strech comparing their little snowflake looking thing to that of jetblue's. Looks kind of like a snowflake from a wingdings font or something.

Hehee... Yeah, and don't forget that the transparent-curved icons and buttons look like they were lifted directly from Apple.

Yeah, I think it's that's a little harsh. The only common thing between the two sites is that little logo, and it's not a very unique one.

I'm pretty impressed by how quickly they put that site up. Somehow I think they really did get swindled by their web designer; I don't think it's the company itself's fault.

yeah, but would you trust a "webhosting" company that doesn't protect its own folders? and then, to top it off, keeps their WS_FTP.LOG.txt in such a folder for everyone to see?

"...With the telegraph to collect and transmit the expressions and signs of the ruling mood, and the fast mail to hurry to the eager clutch of waiting thousands the still damp sheets of the morning daily, remote people are brought, as it were, into one another's presence.

Through its organs the excited public is able to assail the individual with a mass of suggestion almost as vivid as if he actually stood in the midst of an immense crowd.

....within a day, a shock might throw into a fever all within a hundred miles. The next day it might agitate the zone beyond, but meanwhile the first body of people would have cooled down and become ready to listen to reason.

....our space-annihilating devices make a shock well-nigh simultaneous. A vast public shares the same rage, alarm, enthusiasm, or horror.

Then, as each part of the mass becomes acquainted with the sentiment of all the rest, the feeling is generalized and intensified. In the end the public swallows up the individuality of the ordinary man in much the same way the crowd swallows up the individuality of its members. More

Damn, murray, I was going to say something about getting the mob back together, but boy did you ever beat me to it!

i know it was a stretch.. but the mere fact that instantly upon seeing that page it recalled the jet blue one makes it pretty trite design, no? all i said was that they werent trying hard enough, i wasnt implying a direct rip.

its all about association. but hey, its no one's problem anymore. as much as it should be, bad design isnt a crime.

murray_kester, aren't you the same guy who ripped off the Allaire site design for one of your own sites a while back?

well, they've removed the file i linked to at the top, the WS_FTP.LOG and the Corbis pic (i guess they're reading metafilter now to find out what they need to fix next) and fixed the images folder so it's all moot and now.

anyone else wanna join the mob to fight mob mentality?

we are the mob. we are the mob. we are, we are, we are the mob.

For those that missed it, the "borrowed" MeFi images in their image dir had a datestamp of Oct. 2000.

Alright, I didn't agree with Jason before about this whole mob mentality thing, but seriously, enough is enough. You guys are seriously being childish now. 123cheaphosting has done everything to comply with Matt's requests, so lay off, ok? You guys can go to your local playground and go pick on the fat kid.

Not only are "they" probably reading it, but I have an uneasy feeling that "they" maybe one of "us".
Just my thoughts.

Looks like Calebos is raking over some very old coals indeed. Still there's plenty in that thread which has some bearing on the present one.

I think that in that case, as with this one, the whole thing should have been settled privately. Escalation really should have been considered only after those avenues had been exhausted.

I also some bits of Mefi history as well
1. That was the first post featuring fellow Australian (though plainly infamous) Murray Kester
2. That posts by aaron were actually quite polite back in those days ;-j

well, as long as they are reading the thread, they need a new copy editor/grammar nazi: "Your site will your site will actually be on a backbone, providing with one of the fastest, most reliable connections available. "
