The Downfall: Hitler and the End of the Third Reich was well-received by the critics. Recently, amateur subtitle writers have used a poignant scene from the movie to showcase the Fuhrer's banning from iSketch and XBox Live (previously), as well as the downfall of HD-DVD.

Well, Downfall is a good movie. It'd make an interesting post.

Without, ya know, this other silly crap.

The phrase "laugh out loud" is frequently bandied about here on the internets, but when one secretary said comfortingly to another, "Don't worry, Bill Hunt would never do that", ladies and gentlemen, I lolled.

I predict Toshiba will rise to power again in another 20 years by claiming that they were on the verge of victory until they were "stabbed in the back" by Warner.

Where can I obtain this clip without the subtitles, and with what program were the subtitles added?

I can only hope you're thinking of doing what I think you're thinking of doing.

You know who else ranted incoherently about his doctrine?
I can only hope Krrrlson's thinking of what I'm thinking you're thinking of doing.

I have no idea what others think that fandago_matt is thinking of doing, and if Krrlson and weapons-grade pandemonium are thinking of what fandago_matt is thinking, but a take on the reaction of some (or one) to Letterman settling with the WGA comes immediately to my mind.

er, Kim Jong-Il actually. Never mind.

I feel bad about this, but I'm still laughing about "dumbshark." I'll think that I'm over it, but then you'll post, and the lulz come surging back.

I'm not going to come in here and say I saw this (Hitler Banned From iSketch!) a couple of weeks ago. I'm just going to say that since then there has been more than one occasion when it has poped into my head and caused me to chuckle.

Who knows, HD-DVD might live out the end of its useful life in Brazil.

Godwin had nothing on this thread.

BTW, those of you thinking of doing clever things should be aware that for people who speak German the actual dialog is a terrible reminder of very serious events at the end of World War II. As a meme, these spoofs don't go over well in Europe.

Well, the Third Reich wasn't as hilarious as the Third Reich + the format wars between Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. It's like ice and Star Wars aren't that funny individually, but combine them and you have some laughs.

Don't mention the war! I did just once, but I think I got away with it!

This is NOT FUNNY! Not for us, not for any German people!

I saw a German comedian one time, he started his act like this: "many people think that we Germans have no sense of humour, but today my series of funny jokes will disprove that to all of you. Und so, we begin: joke number one!"

I have to admit, I never understood the remake of The Producers (because the original is just so damned brilliant), but John Barrowman sure does have some pipes.`
posted by jb at 1:28 PM on January 16, 2008

jb: The new one is a movie version of the Broadway musical, The Producers, which is loosely based on the comedy movie The Producers, which was not a musical itself, but a movie about people making one.
