This post was deleted for the following reason: how is this thread supposed to go well? This is one decent link and one eye-rolling OMGLOLBUSh link. The one does not cancel the other. Surprise surprise. -- jessamyn

Wait, so am I supposed to hate him for being interested in sex? You fail at Bush hating.

I talk about God during sex. Or at least yell out his name. I am very religious.

But would he rather talk about terror than sex? That's the real question.

Thank goodness for false equivalencies, eh 23skidoo? Just imagine how hard a faux-jaded attitude would be without it!

Uh, read the article, maybe? It's more about his Machiavellian approach to evangelism than Dubya's dirty mind.

I'm not sure how to feel about this, actually... should the fact that he's not a real evangelist (a point in his favor) outweigh the fact that he's clearly even more of a lying weasel than most people realize?

Good article, thanks.

This would have been a decent post back in 2005 when the New York Times broke the Doug Wead tapes.

David Kuo and John Dilulio (both mentioned in the first link) take a slightly different focus in their op-ed piece in today's NY Times.

"a lot of his faith seemed to be politically calculated."

I might need to see a doctor, I may have injured my throat exclaiming the loudest "NO SHIT!?" known to man. Back in a jiff.

If you're Laura, what's the difference?

Eventually, maybe, we'll have the "first atheist president," except he'll probably actually be something like the 30th atheist president. The idea that all these hypocrites actually believe religion is anything but a good way to get votes and power is hilarious.

I don't know which idea I find more scary; that Bush is cynically manipulating people into believing that he is a servant of his faith; while only actually doing the bare minimum to be considered a member of his denomination, and ignoring all the aspects of his religion that seem difficult.

Or that he actually believes that he talks to god, or more importantly, that god occasionally responds.

Both prospects are pretty freaky.
