Well, excuse me, princess. Youtube one-link, but very much a catch-phrase.

Oh merciful heavens.

Zelda sure inspired a lot of crap knock-offs.

You could probably do this with Michaelangelo saying "Cowabunga" or "Pizza" from TMNT the cartoon. It's amazing how bad and repetitive these cartoons were in the 80s. Horrible production values, terrible writing, and annoying catch-phrases. And yet I managed to be too dumb to know better.

Nooo! This is not right. Link doesn't talk!

About halfway through, this goes from annoying to hilarious. Just... so... stupid.

I hope Steve Martin collected some royalties off of that.

It cracked me up when he was suddenly fighting snakes while saying it.

Request for acceptance would not have been my first instinct given the circumstance.

The original link isn't BOTW, but that CSI Intro clip is genius.

I think this is safe only for cartoon characters; they have writers making sure roundhouse punches miss their mark.

Wow, not that I've watched the show much, but I didn't realise how much that Caruso guy delivers his lines like Adam West.

This was Steve Martin's catchphrase first.

The weirder thing is, the Zelda cartoon in the video linked had only 13 episodes. So he was using this phrase multiple times per episode.

The worst thing about the 80s is that it only lasted 10 years.

I've never seen CSI, but I used to like Caruso a bit. Is he really that godawful in the whole show? Good heavens.
posted by brundlefly at 8:43 AM on January 31, 2008

Is he really that godawful in the whole show?

Yes. But he's so over the top bad that it almost makes it back around to good.
posted by LooseFilter at 8:57 AM on January 31, 2008 [2 favorites]

I can't tell if Caruso knows he's overacting and is doing it on purpose, or if he thinks he's being a Master Thespian.

But you also have to lay some of the blame on the god-awful writing: "The verdict is in... but the jury is still out." YEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

I will never listen to The Who the same way.

Apparently the phrase is pretty popular. I had a false memory of Han Solo saying it, but I guess he didn't go all the way.

Ok, the Link link, not so much. That CSI intro? Kind of interesting. But this Bruce Lee screen test on the same site? Awesome. Awesome, awesome.

Ha, this is awesome. I used to watch this and the Mario cartoon when I was a kid. About three years ago, I said it to one of my friends, but couldn't for the life of me remember where I got it from.

I tried. Just couldn't do it. Got pretty far, but that was the most annoying thing I've seen online in a long time.

I am so very glad I was too old and jaded for that particular crop of '80s cartoons.

Dear sweet merciful monkey gods, so very, very glad.
posted by batmonkey at 1:50 PM on January 31, 2008

And there were only 13 episodes in the entire series run. That's a lot of excuses.

See, now I'm going to have to get out one of my Zelda games just so I can kill him off a couple of times. Just to make myself feel better.

Because there is no excuse for that.

But this Bruce Lee screen test on the same site? Awesome.

NICE find. That should have been the FPP.
posted by Civil_Disobedient at 4:20 PM on January 31, 2008

Whoa, that Bruce Lee clip is something else isnt it? The guy is both nervous and confident, the disembodied voice is perfect, and the old white guy they drag out to be his partner was ready to wet himself. Bruce's moves are just so uncannily machine-like. Its amazing how fast he was. Wow, what a nice find. It says a lot on more than a few levels.
posted by damn dirty ape at 5:36 PM on January 31, 2008

Yeah, the Bruce Lee clip kills. A badass and a gentleman.
posted by Joseph Gurl at 7:32 PM on January 31, 2008

I just feel that the FPP didn't get the real gist of it.

It's more like: Ex-cayuuuuuse meee. Gotta make it come from the throat.
posted by Cyclopsis Raptor at 8:41 PM on January 31, 2008

I think I saw the Bruce Lee clip some time ago on Digg or MoFi or something and, yeah, it would have made an awesome FPP post. I got the impression that the screen test director and old guy just sort of don't really understand what they're filming, and I love watching Lee in his badass pedant mode.
