Kidnapper's cabin surrounded

Kidnapper's cabin surrounded as a hostage drama seems to cap a remarkable criminal career. Anthony Zappa was the fugitive who caused the Mall of America to be closed for a search last month; he got away, then he was going to turn himself in, but instead he fled to Nebraska, where he kidnapped a teenage girl. Oddly, this parking-lot snatch resembled an unsolved case of a missing TV anchorwoman, Jodi Huisentruit.

I've previously wondered whether that 1995 disappearance could be at all linked to the 1992 disappearance of a Grinnell College student, Tammy Zywicki, as she drove to school from Evanston, Illinois. (It would appear that Zappa may be too young, though.)

I hope this drama ends more happily.

Tragic... A horrible blot against the good name of Zappa...

This is excellent! (That he has been caught and she is safe!)

I go to school at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, and Anne Sluti's father is a professor there.

Being a small community, the kidnapping hit home hard, and really shook people up.

Small world. Just last month St Paul police were cordoning neighborhoods over by my house trying to keep him from eluding them, and then they closed the Megamall; which I work less than a mile from. I hope they do have him cornered, because he has wiggled out of some tight spots before.

Nonetheless, in a perverse way I am happy that he's been accused of some worse crimes, if only because the fuss they were making about him seemed rather disproportionate for a two bit burglar, which was the charge they were pursuing them for while the net was closing here in the Twin Cities.

Dhatrung--just to kid you a bit: does the snatch refer to the taking of the girl hostage (he snatched her) or to the girl as ...well, you get the second meaning
