I would swear this was repurposed in the '70s for radio ads, but it could be my memory tricking me, since I can't even remember what they advertised.

*turns on time translator*

*fzzzt*

So you woke up this morning and your cell was dead and you couldn't find the charger? The internet was down, too? Your double espresso was burnt like Nick Nolte after a week in Cabo? Your iPod battery died on the subway, and then you missed the last express train and were 2 hours late to work on the local?

Lift your head up high and take a walk in the sun with dignity and stick-to-it-ive-ness and you'll show the world, you'll show them where to get off! And never give up, never give up... that ship!!!

A crackhead cornered you for all of your change, a piece of gum and the bagel you were saving for lunch and then threw it up on your shoes? Scientologists!? Rain!? You got tagged by a bike courier on a fixie doing forty and broke a rib? Your boss took a three hour six martini lunch and left you with fifty five-hundred page documents to print, collate and bind? He mistakenly had you print the OLD one!? You ran out of paper?

Lift your head up high and take a walk in the sun with dignity and stick-to-it-ive-ness and you'll show the world, you'll show them where to get off! And never give up, never give up... that ship!!!

It took 4 hours to get home? Transportation union strike? The same bum puked on your shoes again!? Your cat ate the last of your stash, and barfed it on your pillow? Your pot dealer got busted!? Your mom called - from grandmas!? Now your cable is down and you can't even phone out for a pizza and you've already played all your Wii?

Buddy, you're screwed!

That is wonderful. (And that is what I feel like right now.) I will follow this advice. (Where do I find the majorette?)

I remember this from Dr Demento's 25th Anniversary collection CD.

and you don't hear your little girl screaming no more?

It's certainly odd, and to me completely unfunny. More like an ode to the patheticness of our species.

Great post | good writing, AZ.
