Hurstwic is a loosely affiliated group based in New England with an interest in the societies and peoples who lived in Northern Europe during the Viking age. While no longer formally organized, they still have events, frequently at the Higgins Armory Museum in Worcester MA. posted by owhydididoit (12 comments total) 4 users marked this as a favorite

The Higgins Armory was the easily the coolest weekend trip when I was a kid growing up around Wormtown. Nice to see it on the blue.

Viking! I have a friend who used to go to WPI who will be very sad to hear that this he did not know about this when he was going there.

Evidently I am very tired and am now commenting in broken English, which is sadly my first language.

The really good thing about that page is their Viking age history page with all kinds of cool links including replicating Viking ice skates, made of flattened bones strapped to the shoe! Very worth browsing around that site.

The Higgins Armory is wonderful. Absolutely wonderful. Go there and spend hours looking at suits of armor - not behind glass, just right in front of you. They have a really good bookstore too.

They also have a cool "costume room" for kids where they can put on pint-sized armor and roll around in little castle areas.
You can have a birthday party there too.
My 19-month-old Henry loves this place.

Gaaah. Now I want to stand out in the snow with a long staff and a robe on.

I have been to the Higgins Museum a few times. Sadly not since I moved from MA though. Very cool place. I think it has been mentioned on Mefi in the past too.
