Okay, I was wrong with my previous post: THIS should be required playing for anybody who honestly wants to know what went wrong.

and... I encounter my first puzzle with whether to answer "yes" or "no" on the first info screen. I'ma goin' to go with "yes"?

Wow, I feel really dumb. I can collect 2 items without becoming trapped and read a book. Any clues on how to proceed that won't spoil the joy of discovery would be appreciated.

Look carefully -- very carefully -- at the room you get trapped in. Look all around.

ah, I'll be smacking my forehead now. Thanks, boo.

Anyone figure out how to get the key off the pedestal?

Anyone figure out how to get the key off the pedestal?

You need to go into the room on the right first.
posted by Skot at 1:49 PM on May 2, 2008

I've gotten that far, but haven't made sense of the clues. Thought it had to do with the order you had to step on the stones, but I've had no success so far.

Thought it had to do with the order you had to step on the stones

It does...you may have miscounted. Try again.

blarg. can't find the bone (which I'm pretty sure I need next), and I've looked everywhere.

God damn you magnets!

(evidently I did not look everywhere.)

This is pretty hard...

Does the swirly shiny thing, in the room beyond the cannon, ever do anything other than take you back to the magic book?
posted by mudpuppie at 3:02 PM on May 2, 2008

Finally done. After the mine cart, things get pretty damn tough. 2 hours, 23 minutes.
posted by boo_radley at 3:04 PM on May 2, 2008

mudpuppie, no, it doesn't ever change locations.
posted by boo_radley at 3:06 PM on May 2, 2008

Damn swirly shiny thing.
posted by mudpuppie at 3:08 PM on May 2, 2008

Bad news, pupps: there are more swirly shiny things.

That fused cannon bomb maze has me a little worried at the moment... if you are supposed to hit all the colored buttons before the fuse burns down, I'm a monkey's anus. Or uncle. Or something. Anyway... late, late here, so I'll have another look at it in the morning.

HAHAHA I'M CHEATING!!

How are you even supposed to figure this stuff OUT?
posted by mudpuppie at 3:50 PM on May 2, 2008

Bah. I shot the floating moon with the cannon and now I'm in the big room with the first swirly thing and can't do anything. I think I need to find that bone...somewhere...
posted by Thorzdad at 3:50 PM on May 2, 2008

the floating moon cannon is connected to a button nearby.

I'm having trouble and i'm using a walkthrough...there is no way in hell i would have figured this out otherwise.

I already hate the fuse cannon room, from looking at it.

this is the second game today i cannot complete because i'm trying to use a touchpad.

Does anyone know how to defeat the ice penguin on the roof? I tried throwing the fire axe at it but I always miss. Do I need to put more points into aim or something?

Yah, happy Friday timewaster. 2:55 which isn't bad considering how much time I walked around going, wtf do I do now?

I spent forever figuring out how to get the last torch for the bronze key.

I've decided that getting through the timed maze is simply not possible. I can get pink and purple, or blue and almost pink, but that's about it.
posted by mudpuppie at 6:38 PM on May 2, 2008

Just finished it -- this was a fun diversion, thanks.
posted by brain_drain at 9:02 PM on May 2, 2008

the timed maze is entirely possible. you just have to be swift. I personally had a significantly tougher time with the mine cart, which is also timed.
posted by neckro23 at 9:36 PM on May 2, 2008

I got through the fuse maze, finally. But there is apparently some stairway maze now? I found the correct vortex and everything. All the cheats say i should look for room 7 and complete the stairway maze. But it is missing. I think my computer is broken.

omg this game.. I kicked its ass about a year or so ago. Took forfuckingever though.

cheats? somebody wrote a walkthrough for this?
posted by boo_radley at 11:56 PM on May 2, 2008

Sad... I probably won't get through the cannon timed maze; my left hand is just not fast enough on either arrow keys or mouse, and switching between mouse clicking and arrow navigating with only my right certainly isn't good enough. I like the game a lot, and do great with the puzzles, but I don't have the chops for speed that's needed here. That's why I almost never play games that are all about racing the clock; as soon as I see that this a vital element of the game, I move on. But this one had me fooled for a while. :(

I came here to ask about a bug I encountered: keys would get 'stuck' for a while so I could not move, or the girl would keep walking without my pressing anything. I went back to the game before commenting, and the problem was gone, so I came back here to laud Metafilter's miraculous healing powers. And then it came back.

Seems to be related to using the tools at the bottom of the screen. When it happens, the arrow keys sometimes don't register, and sometimes register as multiple presses.

Oh, yeah - I have a bug, too (I think?); the map is not accessible. Can everyone else see the map? I do get a bit of stutter, too, alexei, but not to the degree you describe.

can't someone come up with a strategy game that doesn't require any thinking? gawd.

taz: you only get the map near the end of the game.

YeeeeeeHaaaahh! I love spending a lazy Saturday afternoon solving tricksy puzzle games. 3:14, including some time that I walked away from the game to clean the bathroom.

31:49 so I guess I'm not a master but pretty cool except for navigation in the bloody head.
