I swear to everything holy that if the taco trucks disappear I'm starting a riot.

Mystery Meat Navigation is not nice.

I did all I could to Save Los Angeles two-and-a-half years ago. I moved away.

But Mystery Meat Tacos are an adventure!

If LA gets rid of the taco trucks, they might as well let the whole place burn down.

Since my lazy ass never got around to writing an fpp: save the bacon wrapped hot dogs. Note that in hipster hoods, you can usually get the vegan version of this as well.

For those of us that live here, we can tell you: it's too late.

Can't we just let LA slowly move northward and then crumble into the sea?
posted by Rarebit Fiend at 9:53 PM on May 3, 2008

No. No, I really don't care.

Can we just let an LA thread not turn into petty snark for once?

....save the bacon wrapped hot dogs

But you already have Oki Dog! ;-P

Seriously, when I left LA LAPL had a best seller book program where one could rent books for a daily fee which was a nickel less than the the overdue fine--which made more sense to me than NYPL's one week borrowing program (but I'm a fast reader). Where was this revenue going, and couldn't it be ramped up?

Am I allowed to snark if I was born and raised in LA?

Ok, just for the purposes of this exercise: everyone not born in LA, go home! You can come back tomorrow. *watches mass exodus*

Right, that leaves like 5 or 6 of us, and none of us even live there anymore. Great.

Let's get to work. We have to finish building MegaDisneyland-LA before tomorrow, set up the gates and start selling admission tickets by dawn.

*places workmanly order of a dozen each of Al Pastor tacos, Carne Asada, Carnitas, Lengue and Buche*

What? It's going to be a long night. Mas cervesa, mas trabajo, amigo.

Well okay, you've convinced me. I'm officially moving back now to do my part!
No, really, I am. And LA haters can just suck it!

Son of a bitch, another perfectly good FPP about LA which will no doubt attract the same filth proudly spouting off their same tired bullshit opinions of why they believe LA stinks. High five each other and drown yourselves, please.

Didn't they already try that before?

High five each other and drown yourselves, please.

mandyman, I must have a bacon wrapped hot dog now.

Also, I tried looking up the guy in the 2nd video on MySpace. That was a joke, right?

I was in the LA area once and California's pretty and all, but you can keep your traffic, yikes.

But I still want a bacon wrapped hot dog. Those look good. Miss Lynnster, maybe you can set up a bacon wrapped hot dog shipping service when you get there.

LA sucks for the same reason every other city sucks, it's full of people who aren't exactly like me.

Mystery meat links and the words "Save LA"? Seems like it was asking for trouble.

Really? I see them outside the Echo all the time, and I never knew they had a vegetarian version. Maybe I should ask next time.

Where are the bacon wrapped hot dogs on the Westside?

Dammit, another perfectly good FPP about LA that's destined for the shit-can because of the influx of "Goddammit-another-thread-about-LA-that-brings-out-the-haters-and-that's-not-me-I'm-a-proud-anti-hater" crowd.

Taco trucks are yesterday's news anyhow. What you really want is a cemita poblano truck.
posted by mzurer at 12:01 PM on May 4, 2008

I rarely see a bacon wrapped hot dog much westerly, but at the Thursday La Cienega Farmers' Market there is one stand that sells them. But then you can't have the Hawaiian BBQ Chicken Burrito.
posted by mzurer at 12:03 PM on May 4, 2008

I have also never seen a vegetarian version of the bacon-wrapped. I can't imagine any self-respecting vegetarian would want their precious food to be around so much "meat energy".

Hopefully no lawmakers or enforcers ever find out about the 1am-in-the-bar-tamales-guy. He always flies under the radar.

It was, in fact, outside the echo where I spotted the smart dogs and fakin bacon. They were cooking on separate yet equal grill pans.

Thanks, Pants! My husband and I built the SaveLAPL site (linked as the first L above)... and my pal Al drew a great Hot Roddin' Taco Truck logo for the catering truck wars. It is, it seems, preservation season in the southland. (See also the Modcom discussion board, Last Remaining seats screenings in historic Broadway theaters, the L.A. Time Machines historic restaurant website and the rather urgent need to Save the Southwest Museum.)

mzurer, I just discovered the Hawaiian BBQ chicken burritos at the La Cienega Market recently, and they are quite tasty. Do you live around there? I'm in Faircrest Heights myself.

And I'm a big fan of the LAPL (in fact, I couldn't do my job without it!), so I'll be signing up at their site & passing the link on to others.
