Free Starbucks internet use But you might have to go a bit out of your way to use it.

Starbucks customers and SOHU.com users will have seamless access to the SOHU.com web site (www.sohu.com), and to the Starbucks web site (www.starbucks.com) from within the stores.

Er . . . dumb question? Are these the only sites that will be available?

Jiffy Lube offers similar access, and no, I'm not joshing.

It's rather wild, because these "New Concept" Jiffy Lubes look and feel like Starbucks inside! It's got that whole faux wood/low funky lighting thing going on. Very odd when you see a mechanic walk in with grease everywhere.

"Oh, crap, sorry about your latte - but your Jetta's all set!"

SOHU.com is the provider of entertaining stick-figure mayhem. I think it's all you really need during your coffee break.

I don't want to derail this thread, but how do web access, satellite television, and CD listening stations make the Jiffy Lube more women friendly? Do men prefer staring at the floor?

Maybe they mean that men will return to a grease-pit just to get the job done whereas a woman would never return if it is just a greasy un-airconditioned office.

Another boring sohu.com link!

Actually, mblandi, women are heavy users of these convenience lube services. [no jokes, please] Men prefer going to a hardcore mechanic ... but a fair few do this job themselves. Also, women are often tasked with this sort of household chore no matter whose car is involved. So, yes, they want to be friendly to their chief demographic. These places thrive on repeat business, and the little window sticker isn't just enough, with free offers coming from every direction. Brand differentiation and all that.

Plus, what's wrong with replacing the Grease Monkey Monthly on the table with, say, Parenting? Some would call that enlightened, rather than cynical.

Those evil corporate bastards are enslaving Starbuck's Internet use now?

What happened to the tea?

It makes sense: filtered coffee; oil filters; China-filtered Internet. How come it took 11 posts and ME to make this observation?

At SSU, there is a Starbuck's on campus that is also a cyber cafe. I set up the PCs there for internet, e-mail, and classwork. All access is unregulated and free. Oh, and how many (straight) men do you know that walk up to a coffee bar and ask for a triple-latte mocha grande? (I usually go for the chai tea...discretely mind you)
