So it's come to this. California - my favorite third world country. We've had terrorist rampages; water rationing; more recently, energy rationing; senior citizens holding a *bake sale* for god's sake in San Francisco to raise funds for affordable housing; an encephalitis outbreak in Livermore and now this.

“The chances of a child coming down with this balamuthia encephalitis are probably the same as being hit by a meteorite in Union Square of San Francisco.”

Riddle me this, Batman: Has anyone ever been hit by a meteorite in San Francisco? When was the last time anyone received a direct hit by a meteroite anywhere on this planet?

The chances of a child discovering an amoeba eating the inside of her skull has a similar percentage chance to the range between being hit by a meteorite and coming across an idiot making an absurdly quasi-statistical statement to the media which then gets printed for the world to see.

I don't know -- when I was a kid, the grown-ups always used to warn us: "It's all fun and games until somebody's brain gets eaten by an amoeba." But then, those were the same ones warning us to watch out for meteorites.
