Princess Chunk - she ain't heavy, she's my fuzzy buddy

Are you looking for a nice, big kitty to let into your heart? Princess Chunk, at 44 pounds, might fit the bill nicely. Just two pounds shy of the world's record, the pudgy kitty was roaming sans collar in Voorhees, NJ and is now in good hands at the Camden County Animal Shelter. Chunker's owners have until Saturday to claim their big pal - after that, this big quarterback of a kitty is ready for a loving home.

It's the biggest thing to hit Camden County in a long, long time.

For which the few remaining mice in Voorhees are exceedingly grateful.

For my big house-cat needs, I think I still want a Fishing cat. (Some of the photos are still available here.)

With only 2 pounds to go, it would be a shame not to go for the record.

Thanks for that link Greg Nog, complete with my favorite Chunk photo yet.

In late-breaking news, Chunky's still unclaimed, and she's going on Regis and Kelly tomorrow.

With the question looming as to where Princess Chunky came from, Wright offered a few theories... Maybe it was an elderly person who died.

Oh god. That explains the weight. Some poor old lady keeled over into her pot of catnip and... oh the humanity.

I will forward this article to everyone who complains about my fat cat. Yes his name is "Pico", and he weighs about 26 pounds. But he was really small when we got him!

Yep. And for breakfast!

My cat is pleased to hear about this. She has long been saddled with the undignified nickname "the fat one." Unfortunately, as she won't be hanging out with Captain Chunk anytime soon and her step-sister is a svelte creature, she's still going to be "the fat one."

Sorry Wensleydale. You're still the fattest animal in this house.

Though not if I get down to New Jersey and steal that cat. Man, I am a sucker for an obese feline!

She's so cute. Seriously, I wanna cuddle her (which she doesn't seem to mind). I bet she belonged to an elderly person who's either passed or is sick. Po' kitteh.

Oh man, I want that kitty for my own! I would love her, and hug her, and squeeze her, and call her Captain.

And put her on some nice Royal Canin Calorie Control, lol.

This makes me feel much, much better about my own one-year old monster, Mister Suzuki, who weighs in at 22. He's petite in comparison, really. (I feed him cat food from costco, dry, and he likes to snack on Sorrel.)

My landlady lives down stairs from me. Her cat looks bigger than that one. Her cat also has the same name as her son-Johnny, which must thrill him to no end. He live downstairs from her. She'll cook for the cat but not for him. I don not know what this all means.

My 20-pound black pussy pales in comparison to that Princess Chunk. I can't imagine having PC chilling in my lap though. If Black Kittie (yes that is my cat's name) sits in my lap for too long, my legs start to fall asleep.

Just two pounds shy of the world's record...

New heaviest cat on the block is: Snowbie, who weighed in at 44kg (98lb) in 1977.

I've spent the last hour on some differential equations modeling this and my best estimate is that 44 + 2 << 98.

Oh, and the SFGate article mentions "The Guinness World Records" Please tell me that Giles Coren didn't write that piece. If he did...well, I don't want to be a sub-editor on the receiving end.

An excerpt regarding the ambiguity of Chunk's chunk:

"Is it possible this cat is so dang fat that even though everyone's looking at it things are hidden?" she said before the show. "It's possible. We keep looking at this cat's behind and it looks like a girl to us. But nothing looks really normal on this cat."

The vet who examined Powder live on national TV said he was confident the cat was male - "He's like you and me," he told Regis Philbin.

Also sucks that she threw the cat out on the street (after letting it get like this) instead of finding a shelter or other group to take it in.

I can see a reality television show develop out of this, where several families compete in outrageous feats of physical endurance and psychological stress in order to prove they're the best family to take care of the cutest cat the producers can get their hands on. Call it "Pedigree Factor."

The one article I saw said she gave her second (also fat, but not this fat) cat to some friends, but didn't say anything about giving this one away.

But, I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt.

Smart of them to select an adoptive family that already has 2 cats, that way he can get some slimming exercise playing and running around with them.

The front page of the Camden County Animal Shelter says that The Prince will be at the Cherry Hill PetSmart for their adoptathon on Aug. 17th, if any fat cat lovin' mefite in the area wants to meet him in person. I wish I could go! :)
