The IBM PC/AT might have been a continuation of the kludge that was the PC, but the two things it had going on in the mid-80s was Turbo Pascal and that delicious 80x25 EGA screen that was perfect for text adventures like this. Good times, good times.

Back to the iPhone mines for me!

newfers, you say that like the good old days of roguelikes are over or something.

Well, they're over for me... I'm off to far prettier games nowadays, but this game sure brought back a flood of fond memories. But not enough for me to play for more than 10 minutes. Sad but true.

newfers, have you tried Dwarf Fortress? Its highly addictive despite having a learning cliff [1]. And, for that matter, I still think Nethack is a damn fine game, even if I never have gotten a character to live past level 15 or so....

[1] Which is a bit like a learning curve, but a lot steeper.

Looks like LotRD II. Too bad I can't play it from here, and I'll probably forget about it by the time I get home.

Wait, Recent Activity will remind me! If I'm not too lazy...

I can't use my sword - the ampersand keeps killing me. And I don't think I can throw rocks at it. How do I use my sword? Halp... :(

Doesn't hold a candle to Alphaman. Where else can you fight Elvis Impersonators AND Buzz Aldrin?

ZZT, is it really you?

Many, many, many hours into the nethack time sink over the past two decades. I now play the Buck Rogers eye-candy version known as Transcendence. Shoot me now before I play again...

As someone who dedicated most of middle school to screwing around with ZZT, this game is a dream come true.

God, I want to play transcendence so badly. Would it kill them to make a Mac version?

jim in austin, curse you, I'd almost forgotten about Transcendence, now you've reminded me of it and I find out that it works perfectly with wine, I don't even have to reboot to play....
