I give up....my complacency, I mean! (Is it too late to talk the bear down? It is, isn't it? Did the anthropomorphic chimp leave a note? I mean, he tied a noose he could scribble a few last words.)

Also, is this when someone with no idea about climatology or someone with a clear understanding of only one party of non-systemic climatology tells us that global warming isn't real?

... cause... you know.. it is

When lemmings kill themselves it's not news. A monkey, a polar bear and a kangaroo kill themselves and then it's a big deal.

Specists.

Okay, here's what we do. We get a bunch of those monkeys and equip them with big paper fans. We get some saddles for the kangaroos. We put the monkeys on the kangaroos and send them all north to fan the polar bears. Problem solved!

"Why can't we get inflatable rafts for the polar bears???"

We get emails like that at my work (an environmental non-profit). Often enough that it's almost a meme at work.

That and "OMG TEH CHEMTRAILZ!!!!!+11!"

Dammit. I can't even go to the old standby cheerer-upper Baby Animals cube book, because it makes me CRY EVEN MORE.

(I compost. I eat locally. I only flush when necessary. I don't take baths anymore. I recycle. I re-use. I sweat in the summer and freeze in the winter. I drive a Civic. I'm already doing a LOT! I don't deserve this!)

Seriously, does anyone have an antidote link?

It's like somebody decided to make a commercial from the perspective wingnut conservatives imagine is the default mode of thinking for liberals.

Yup. Terrible, ass-backward messaging. That profound feeling of exhausted paralysis that washes over you just after the organization's logo appears (unless you found the thing so over-the-top maudlin it cracked you up)? But yeah, that overwhelming desire to do nothing at all - or really that there's nothing to be done? Does it not occur to anyone in the fucking pitch meeting to say, hey, if we're trying to make people not give up, shouldn't we predicate our message on a positive development? Or at least offer the thinnest shred of optimism to cling to?

So anyway that right there is a 30-second synopsis of how the environmental movement lost the public's attention on climate change.
